Rahm Emanuel – Ineligible to Run for Mayor (OOPS!)

A word to the wise.  If you ever should be Chief of Staff to the President of the United States and decide to resign so you can pursue some “other” job…ANY other job…

At least make sure you’re ELIGIBLE to take the job.  At least make sure you don’t disqualify yourself before you even officially campaign for the job.

OOPS.  How can you be a lifelong Chicago politician and somehow lose sight of the residence requirements to become mayor?!

How can you NOT know that you have to live within the city for a full year before the election?  Otherwise, anyone of any import could hijack mayoral elections around the country on cash alone.  No surprise, Emanuel is the biggest fundraiser of the prospective candidates.

An Illinois Appeals Court has ruled that former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s name can’t appear on the ballot for Chicago mayor because he didn’t live in the city in the year before the election.

The decision put Emanuel’s candidacy into doubt a month before the election. Emanuel had been considered the front-runner and had raised more money than any of the other candidates.
