Mo’Kelly thought this commercial was both humorous and socially provocative. It obviously plays on the theme of “racial” profiling, but is conscious of how such a commercial can be seen very negatively in the community and adversely affecting the brand.
To that end, the ad agency saw it more prudent to make sure the officer was African-American and the ghost was “white.”
What’s the funniest is the ethnic “mmm-hmm” by the ghost at the end. The “White ghost” went “Black woman.” “You have a good night sir…(mmm-hmm)” Some have thought this commercial was in poor taste but Mo’Kelly found it quite hilarious. If you like, please comment on how it struck you.
This is not about seeing race in everything as this commercial clearly plays about the idea of racial profiling. Actually, Mo’Kelly thought it was pretty witty and on the verge of social commentary.
