The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation announced back in 2018 it would no longer investigate the death of 21-year-old Willie Andrew Jones Jr. Jones was found hanging from a tree in Scott County, Miss., in his girlfriend’s yard in February of that year.

Local law enforcement believed that Jones committed suicide; however, his family believes that foul play was involved and that the family of his ex-girlfriend might have killed him.

As the nation’s attention has been focused on the Derek Chauvin trial and its implications for justice for the family of George Floyd, we may unwittingly overlook some of the other fights and even dare I say, the modern day lynchings of Black men in America which not only go unreported, but uninvestigated thoroughly.

Meet attorney Jill Collen Jefferson of the Human Rights and Legal Firm – Julian Legal. Who is not only trying to bring to light lesser known injustices in Mississippi, but uncovering the systemic inequities beyond just simply unlawful police encounters.
