THIS is exactly why Mo’Kelly refuses to vote Republican or support Republican
interests. Nice of Santorum to tell the 99.9% White Iowa crowd about how he’d like to make the lives of “Black people” better…but not through welfare; meaning the majority of us must be on welfare or the majority of us are impacted through the welfare system.
Clown.
Nice of Republicans once again to talk ABOUT us when we’re not in the room, conflating welfare, African-Americans and the failed economy. The 12% African-American population (which does NOT comprise the majority of welfare recipients) is somehow now a talking point in Iowa speeches about reviving the economy?
But this ISN’T playing the race card, right?
______________
Speaking to Republicans in Iowa on Monday, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) said his administration would reform welfare to the point that it would offer no welfare at all.
After suggesting that an expansion of Medicare is really just a plot to make voters more “dependent” on Washington, Santorum added: ”I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money.”
“I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn their money and provide for themselves and their families,” he added. “The best way to do that is to get the manufacturing sector of the economy rolling.”
One thing he likely overlooked: white Americans account for the largest percentage of welfare payments each month, mostly because they make up the largest sector of the population.
Welfare is defined by the government as benefits funded by tax dollars, meaning that programs like Social Security, food stamps, veterans benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment and corporate bailouts all fall under that term.
What Santorum seemed to focus on, as many conservatives do, is that black people are disproportionately represented in welfare statistics, along with Latinos, as both populations have much higher rates of poverty than whites.
According to the University of Michigan’s National Poverty Center, 27.4 percent of blacks and 26.6 percent of Hispanics were living in poverty in 2010, compared to 9.9 percent of whites. Unemployment statistics between the racial demographics are similarly skewed.
Despite the factually flawed nature of Santorum’s pitch on Monday, the underlying logic of his pitch is abundantly clear: census data shows that over 91 percent of Iowans are white, a community Santorum must desperately appeal to if he wants a win in Tuesday’s caucuses.

Santorum was running for national office, not an Iowan office. And like everywhere else in the nation, Iowa blacks are disproportionately on the welfare rolls.
Iowa Whites are on welfare 84% to Blacks 9% in Iowa. Get your facts straight before coming here or don’t come at all.
It doesn’t matter if Santorum was supposedly talking about a national ot local picture…there is no mathematical reality where any multitude, majority or plurality in which any number of African -Americans are on welfare or disproportionately imbalance the welfare equation. We are 12 percent of the population on our best day.
Then for him to talk about elevating “Blacks” in connection to the issue of welfare is a racial untruth. The numbers are incontrovertible.
Mr. Mo Kelly,
Most whites have been lead to believe this lie but, it is up to us, as a people to educate them, as well as the rest of the world of the truth. On the contrary, Blacks as a people should also take the initiative to bring ourselves out of this pit that the Democratic establishment has dug for us since the slavery days. Matter of fact it was the Democratic Party, the party of SLAVERY that started the whole racial problem in America, as far as Blacks are concerned. The Republican Party was THE BLACK PARTY, until welfare was introduced in the 60’s by Johnson. It was Eisenhower who gave us the Civil Rights Act of 1957, Everett Dirksen the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and Nixon who started Affirmative Action, and all of these were REPUBLICAN! In fact, The Republican Party was founded against slavery and fought and died along with our people, AGAINST the vicious slaughting of the Southern Democrats. Look up George Wallace, the BIGOT, and see what party he belonged too…it will amaze you with the truth!
Our demographic before welfare in the 60’s was a community that stood for one another and helped one another, while providing for OUR OWN EMPLOYMENT, thru businesses, entrepreneurship, education, medical sufficiency, farms, inventors, club owners, The Black Church (which was the staple and fabric of our society), and children who respected and honored their parents. There was no abortion problem, no un-wed mothers and the males took their place in society as fathers and role models SERIOUSLY! If we fell down, we helped each other up…PERIOD! So yes, partially and in secret some of what Santorum says is correct, while the numbers are bloated and weighted in favor of whites. But tell me, if we as a wonderfully constructed race of human beings, began to live “as the good old days,” these statements wouldn’t sting, they wouldn’t be found at all in the mouths of Whites or Blacks. Black America is in need of a “Renaissance” that our leaders haven’t supplied…………yet even after 40 years! Furthermore, they never will SO, WE HAVE TO DO IT FOR OURSELVES! It’s no longer cute anymore…..IT’S A SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS AND MORAL PROBLEM that permeates our communities! Solutions work, double talk doesn’t! God Bless!
