Michele Bachmann – Alleged HEAVY Pill Use (She’s Done)

Congresswoman Bachmann…you’re done.  Thanks for playing.  We have nice

parting gifts for you.  Please sign the guest book as you exit.

The Minnesota Republican frequently suffers from stress-induced medical episodes that she has characterized as severe headaches. These episodes, say witnesses, occur once a week on average and can “incapacitate” her for days at time. On at least three occasions, Bachmann has landed in the hospital as a result.

“She has terrible migraine headaches. And they put her out of commission for a day or more at a time. They come out of nowhere, and they’re unpredictable,” says an adviser to Bachmann who was involved in her 2010 congressional campaign. “They level her. They put her down. It’s actually sad. It’s very painful.”

Bachmann’s medical condition wouldn’t merit public attention, but for the fact she is running for president. Some close to Bachmann fear she won’t be equal to the stress of the campaign, much less the presidency itself.

“When she gets ‘em, frankly, she can’t function at all. It’s not like a little thing with a couple Advils. It’s bad,” the adviser says. “The migraines are so bad and so intense, she carries and takes all sorts of pills. Prevention pills. Pills during the migraine. Pills after the migraine, to keep them under control. She has to take these pills wherever she goes.”

To staff, Bachmann has implausibly blamed the headaches on uncomfortable high-heel shoes, but those who have worked closely with her cite stress, a busy schedule and anything going badly for Bachmann as causes.

Alice Stewart, a spokeswoman for Bachmann, said ”she suffers from migraines and they’re under control with medicine.” Stewart contested descriptions of the episodes as “incapacitating” Bachmann but did not specify how the descriptions were wrong. “The information you have is incorrect,” Stewart said. She declined to discuss Bachmann’s hospital visits at all, saying, “I’m not going to go into her medical history.”

    Mo,

While I certainly would agree that anyone prone to severe migraine not run for POTUS, arguably the most stressful job in the world, I take umbrage with your characterization of the Congresswoman being a “pill popper”.

I too suffer from the disease known as migraine, and those who aren’t familiar, it is terribly painful when an episode strikes. It isn’t just a “headache”…that is merely one symptom of the disease.

And for those of us who have a more severe form of the disease, it is necessary to carry several medications-usually an abortive(should one become aware an episode is impending), a pain reliever (if one should strike and the abortive is not effective or taken in time), and separate medicines to relieve other accompanying symptoms, such as nausea. And many of us take a daily preventative medicine as well to TRY to keep them under control so that we can function normally without being afraid of WHEN an episode may occur.

I don’t know what meds Congresswoman Bachman takes, as every sufferer is different, and what works for one person does not necessarily work for someone else. But I’d hate for ANYONE who suffers from migraine to be called a “pill popper”, whether in jest or not.

JT, I don’t think the issue is with the migraines. It has to do with how she tries to cope with them. From the piece…

“She carries and takes all sorts of pills.”
      “Prevention pills.”
      “Pills during the migraine.”
      “Pills after the migraine.”
“She takes these pills wherever she goes.”

Is that how you and the majority of migraine sufferers deal with migraines? I think probably not. But the above would qualify as pill-popping. Pills before, during and after…and they aren’t Advil. Clearly Bachmann does NOT want you, me or anyone else to know the exact type of medication(s). This clearly indicates a consistent use of multiple prescription-level meds. This is not about the migraines, it’s the behavior in addressing them. Nowhere did I characterize migraine-sufferers as “pill-poppers.” THIS migraine-sufferer clearly seems to be though.
