Happy 20th Anniversary to ‘The Five Heartbeats’…All-time Classic!

Twenty years ago today the classic Robert Townsend movie The Five Heartbeats was released.  It will forever remain as one of Mo’Kelly’s favorite movies of all time.

There are Black directors and storytellers out there who know how and seek to present us in the correct light.  Quality is timeless and The Five Heartbeats is just that.  GlobalGrind.com also did a photo retrospective HERE.

We can do better in our cinematic forays and there is a historical record of having done better.  We don’t have to look for the lowest common denominator of “getting high” or base stereotypes in vain attempts at having “Black people on the screen.”

Quality will always be timeless…
