Don’t Judge T.I. For Latest Arrest (Yeah Right)

Rapper T.I. Was released from prison March 26 of this year. In between that time, he was married in July and his film Takers was released in August.

As for September…?

Last night, T.I. and the aforementioned/referenced wife “Tiny” were arrested in Hollywood for felony possession of controlled substances…plural.

This is where someone usually shouts, “Do not judge, lest ye be judged.” The statement is in reference to Matthew 7:1 and to my mind has always been a misapplication of the biblical verse.

T.I. has once again put his life and career in jeopardy here. Few people get second chances, much less one at stardom. This is not going to be judgment as referenced in Matthew 7:1. Nobody is making any holier than thou judgment as to whether T.I. is living in right relationship with God or is on the path to eternal damnation. This is about calling “dumbass” when you see it. But let Mo’Kelly digress for a moment on this “judgment” thing.

Christians have historically been entitled to and implored to “judge”…to exhibit good sense and know when those around him/her do not. For example…

The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. (Psalms 37:30)

Is this not about the lack of wisdom of T.I.? For it he (and his wife) will likely go to jail. It is what it is.

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? (1 Corinthians 6:2)

Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. (Proverbs 31:9)

The scourge of drugs has plagued our community for decades.  Regardless of whether you are a proponent of the legalization of drugs, they are illegal now, period. It’s not that hard to avoid getting into your car, smoke marijuana and/or pop meth and ecstasy as Mr. and Mrs. T.I. did. Such behavior is an affront to the poor and needy. T.I. threw away his second chance in about 6 months.  He could have been a positive example, but instead chose the prison path more frequently traveled.

Sympathy?  Oh hells no.  Are we “judging” him?  Maybe yes, maybe no.  The law is clear.  And so is the Bible for that matter.  Mo’Kelly is well within his right to speak on it.

And Jesus answering said unto them, ‘Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.’ And they marveled at him. (Mark 12:17)

T.I. has likely thrown it all away…

Again…

It’s not sad, it’s just stupid.

It’s not “tragic”…it’s just truly abhorrent behavior.

It doesn’t matter how “talented” T.I. may be or how much one may love his acting.

We can’t even be sure this is emblematic of an addict unable to control one’s behavior.  So we can’t even give him the benefit of that doubt.  T.I. was last in jail for guns…not drugs. This is an altogether new type of stupid for him.

Maybe BET will give him a reality show, documenting the weeks leading up to his next prison stint…a la Lil Kim.

We can only hope.

Let’s be clear, T.I. does not deserve sympathy as there is nothing sympathetic about his situation. Compassion? That’s for the judge to decide…as in criminal court judge.   Whether he and his wife should receive some leniency (read: compassion) will be more connected to previous legal entanglements not previous entertainment exploits.

What’s that…T.I. was still on probation and had drugs and the stench of marijuana smoke in the car. OOPS…you’re a triple idiot.

Too bad, so sad…and Mo’Kelly’s somewhat glad. There has to be a point in which such behavior is simply no longer tolerated. T.I. has had his chance…multiple ones. It’s time to call it for what it is.

If that’s “judging”…so be it.  The Bible and the law are still on Mo’Kelly’s side.

Well, it would seem that despite the second chances that TI has had, no wisdom or appreciation was gained by the his experiences. What a great example these two are for their children…
