Although it has been relatively quiet on the African Methodist Episcopal
corruption front, the wheels of justice began to turn this week with the inception of the sexual harassment lawsuit trial between former First AME minister Brenda Lamothe and present presiding minister John J. Hunter.
If you’ve noticed, Mo’Kelly doesn’t refer to Hunter as “Rev. Dr.” John J. Hunter. As he as listed as being a “doctor” Mo’Kelly can not find any record of him obtaining either an M.D., PhD or EdD… anywhere…from anyone. The last educational degree Hunter received according to Mo’Kelly’s research was a JD from Boston University Law.
John Hunter’s bio HERE.
And speaking of phony and nonexistent degrees. First Concubine Denise “Hunter” (they’re not legally married) now also uses the title of “Dr.”…though there is no record anywhere of her attending any university…
EVER. Check out the link HERE.
Dr. Denise Hunter
Thursday, 1:00 PM PST to 2:00 PM PST – The FAME Lets Grow L.A. Radio Show is meant to pique the interest and challenge the thinking of our listening audience. Our goal is to provide information and access to resources that will help our listeners improve in every area of their lives. We will explore topics related to health and welfare, political and civic engagement, community activism, education and employment. Our hope is that by raising awareness on important issues that affect us all, we will equip our listening audience with the tools they need to be positive change agents in their homes and their communities.
Really, you can call yourself “Dr.” without having to go to college? Wow. So if both John Hunter and Denise “Hunter” lie about being married, lie about their credentials…what do you think they’re going to do when they hit the courtroom and are asked to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
You got it…they’ll lie then too.

Mr. Mo’Kelly…you’re very keen and on top of the latest, so I’m very surprised when you said that all’s been “relatively quiet” on the AME corruption front. But you must have missed the loud stage whispers of folks commenting on the AME’s very own Rev. Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant impersonating a spiritual adviser on the Omarosa “dating” show on TV One. The rumblings are just beginning…listen out for them Mr. Kelly!
I will do that…won't be the first woman he's impregnated under questionable circumstances…
Mo,
Some of these "ministers" out here just leave me shaking my head. It's scary how they play with God.
There is always some kinda mess going on in AME churches. I grew up in AME churches and the "pastor" or his wife were always involved in scandals…if its not them its the Deacons. SMH!!! Just be careful who you choose to be your spiritual leader. If their house ain't clean…the congregation is going to have problems!
Well actually Mr.MK – he CAN call himself “Doctor” or label himself “DR” if he has in fact been conferred the Doctorate of Jurisprudence/Juris Doctorate. It’s really not done in polite society, nor in academic circles and this person is playing “fast and loose” with the “title game” – – but if it is in fact true that he has earned and been awarded the JD – – then he is indeed being truthful.
*giving Rev the sidewaysWTHnobodydoesthat look*
If anything, he's still a fraud. And yes, people who've been awarded honorary doctorates "can" call themselves "doctor" too…
It too is misleading, disingenuous and a miss-application of the title. And yes, it is "possible" that Denise has received an honorary doctorate (to further the point). But calling her (or him) "doctor" is simply fraudulent…done only to deceive.
Rev. Brenda, May God give you the strength you need to get this difficult situation. You are a strong and beautiful black woman, who God has called and man has misused. Know that the Best is Yet To Come. You are a role model for a number of women everywhere.
May God Bless you far beyond your thoughts and imagination.
Rev. Kupaji
Rev. Kupaji,
It is 2 years and I don’t know if you will get this message, but as I read through these comments I was floored to see your message to me.
My heart had been broken and I stayed away from all publications including this very astute and poignant website created by a Man of Truth, a Man of God.
I have often thought of you and prayed for the strength and sound of your voice in the din of noise from men and women who “profess” God and are silent in the face of injustice.
Thank you for “carrying” me when I was so low. I love you and am grateful for your spirit and courage.
Brenda
