Organization of Black Screenwriters Workshop

OBS –  HOST FILM WRITING WORKSHOP SERIES
Early Bird Registration Ends July 31

Throughout the month of August, the Organization of Black Screenwriters (OBS) presents “OBS on Tour Los Angeles: Feature Film Workshop,” a dynamic series designed to help writers on all levels in the development and writing of a feature film.

The six-part program will be held Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Aug. 11 – Aug. 26. The early bird registration price for OBS non-members for all six sessions is $85.  The early bird deadline is July 31; the non-member price doubles to $170 starting Aug. 1.
Individual sessions are available.

“This price is unheard of for screenwriting training,” said OBS President Jennifer Williams.  “However, we are committed to providing affordable training to anyone seriously interested in a screenwriting career,” Williams said.

Classes will be held at the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Building, 1999 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90018.

The workshop will focus on creating the high concept, commercial movie script, which according to Williams, has a universal story line, a unique twist and mass appeal.  “We have a comprehensive curriculum that takes writers from start to finish, from the idea concept to a completed script. We show those with a sincere desire to write how to create the best screenplay they possibly can,” she said.

Topics include loglines, outlines, beat sheets, story structure and character descriptions, arc and flow.  “The workshop is very hands on. We encourage writers to bring their ideas, projects and questions. We will provide feedback and solutions to help move their projects forward,” Williams said.  The sessions will be taught by an expert cadre of OBS writers who have either
successfully completed writing fellowships, sold scripts, have screenwriter credits, have scripts that have been produced and/or are readers who are paid by major studios or production companies to read and recommend scripts for purchase.

Additionally, special guest speakers will share information and insight gained from their experience in the entertainment industry.

The OBS On Tour series has been presented in major cities throughout the country and will be held this fall in New York City, Washington, D.C., Norfolk, VA, and Atlanta.  Founded in 1986 to address the lack of black representation among writers within the entertainment industry, the Organization of Black Screenwriters remains committed to assisting screenwriters in the creation of works for film and television and to helping them present their works to the industry. OBS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. For information on OBS, visit
