Mo’Kelly’s Watching You BAM!

Mo’Kelly’s got spies EVERYWHERE.  If she tries to make a break for Mexico (or Australia as she and the Directorate are slated to sojourn)…we’re on it!  Turn in your passport!  This was sent from an anonymous spy with the email address of [email protected]

(Mo’Kelly’s just sayin’…)

Chicago Sun Times updates the story and reports on these findings HERE!

“It has become apparent to this court that the leadership of the organization has intentionally taken steps to frustrate this court’s order,” Cook County Judge Daniel Riley said, ordering that the organization’s records custodian be in court Wednesday and bring the group’s check register, minutes book and wire-transfer documents.”

Thanks Mr. Kelly, for helping the honorable and long-suffering sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha fight the good fight.

Any chance you have any contacts at the AP or any of the network news outlets? If it the fact that "the emperor has no pants" (or morals) becomes national news, maybe just maybe "the emperor" will realize their days in their fantasy kingdom are numbered, and that they had better do the right think. Post haste!

Thanks Mr. Kelly. We are ever so grateful to you for all that you're doing. I'm doing my part, too! I'm joining the email train to St. Louis (LOL) and emailing it to the local media in my little East Coast town. Now *this* will lead to *change* we all can believe in!!!!

Thank you Mo for all your assistance in trying make aware members and the public aware of ill deeds that are going on in my sorority. I can't want until BAM goes down. I have emailed media outlets. Thank you again. Some sorors need to WAKE UP because this is a serious matter.

    1. mrmokelly Avatar

I'm not necessarily telling anything anybody doesn't already know…just putting out a reminder. There is an ongoing IRS investigation, there is a standing court order to turn over the books and the sorority is presently found in contempt of said order. I know it sounds cliche but it truly is merely a matter of time. I understand how most want this ended TODAY so the membership body can make its amendments to the constitution now, have McKinzie removed in disgrace and preclude any of her associates/cronies from being elected.

      I get all that.

Just know that the approaching sunrise is inevitable. The stall tactic that BAM is using now only has further pissed off the judge. This is ALL bad for her, no matter what public face she puts on it. This is a slow, painful end, believe it. She can't beat the courts, can't fight this in the media and surely can't let it come to the floor for discussion. Surrounded on all fronts.

In chess this would be "check"…and "mate" in two moves.

Mo Thank you is not nearly enough for all you've done for us. You've had a major role in keeping this event going. No matter what BAM and her BOTS think of you, you've supported integrity…Now I wish I could be the judge. This lunatic named BAM has slapped this man upside his head and told him no!!Who else but a certified nut case would do that. Does she not know that a judge can't allow some piece of mess like BAM to disrespect him. He has to maintain his reputation. Shoot even Oprah wouldn't try to face off a judge. My fantasy is that the judge will have constables march in to the convention center and handcuff all of them. My fantasy Sometimes dreams come true :0)

    Mo'Kelly,

You are THE MAN!! Thank you! I hope you have a 'lawyer acquaintance' or two who would take a quick peak at the Illinois laws on nonprofits and perhaps render an opinion on a few key points:

    1) did the directorate have the authority to authorize the hiring of lawyers to work against the organizations bylaws AT THE ORGANIZATIONS EXPENSE– given that they were each co-defendants in the case.

    2) Is there anyway in hell that BAM can argue that she was acting the the organizations best interest when she got the organization cited for contempt? And thus– must we sustain the cost to indemnify her ongoing?

    3) Will the court recognize the efforts of Sorors at the Boule to fight BAM?

    4) Shouldn't the sorors be making motions to constrain all spending and to decline to indeminfy BAM and the directorate (given that our minutes will almost certainly end up in court next year)?

    5) Can the courts act on a motion by sorors to remove the anti-B given her involvement in the illegal activities?

    6) Can the anti-B be disbarred for participating in this theft and being complicit in the breaking of the law by not showing up in court today?

Any insight into these matters would be GREAT!!

    We love you Mo'K!

M'Damn! I have been watching this for a while and it is a sad state of affairs. However, someone else posted that the way this organization handles this financial malfeasance will be indicative of how other BGLO's address any problems they may have. It is a shame that both ZPB and AKA have been guinea pigs…per se. But, it is a lesson to all of us that give of our time and money. Do not be afraid to hold leadership accountable for being financial stewards. May this be indeed be a new beginning for all of these organizations. There is much community work to be done. 'Our' organizations should be a part of the first line leading the charge.

    Mr. Kelly:

As a PROUD woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., I thank you. I "thank you" for assisting us in restoring our sorority back to what our founders wanted us to be. I truly believe that it is a new day for AKA, and we need to let the healing process begin. This McKenzie situation will work itself out now that we have appropriate leadership coming into office.

Again, thank you for helping us continue to be of "service to all mankind".

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. For those who think that the healing is about to begin or even worse, "the McKenzie situation will work itself out now that we have appropriate leadership coming into office." We thought we had a"appropriate" leadership in office until this last summer. This is not the time for thinking everything will worK "ITSELF" out. We, the members of AKA must work to make sure that this mess gets straightened out. We can't start sitting back now. BAM is a fighter. Right or wrong, she is going to fight not caring who's left with the bill. The others on the directorate were complicit in all of this and will bear responsibility whether they want to or not. They'll have to fight the charges of malfeasance. The incoming president served on that directorate. No, it will not work itself out. Once the truth comes to light via the opening of the books, we as an organization will have to make changes in our documents, procedures, thinking and behaviors to ensure that nothing like this happens again. And I say opening the financial records will help bring changes because that's what it will take to open the eyes of the majority of the members who are still in denial. Right now, in our national conference, our voices are being stifled, our mikes turned off by BAM. Until our voices are heard and action to resolve this mess begins, we must continue the struggle for transparency and accountability.

    Mr. Kelly,
At first I thought "who is he to get into my sorority's business". My thoughts about you have changed significantly, ever since I have researched and found out how deceitful BAM has been. Although I am in favor of sorority business staying in the sorority, BAM started it with her lies and her thievery.

Thank you for keeping this issue in the forefront and sorors, I must say that I am extremely upset about the men on the dais….in an AKA meeting?! BAM needs to read her documents….

Jay Jay…You are so on target..Now I hope my sorors won't blow me out of the water for this next statement..Jay Jay is right. The foundation of our sisterhood is the governing documents. Now we know that they are flawed and need revising. I think that the Zetas had an excellent idea. They convened a special meeting just to discuss their governing documents. (Help me out if I'm wrong Edda R :0) ) We can't heal until we put articles in place that will support accountability and transparency. Obviously we now know that too many of our members are woefully ignorant/uninformed about what really matters. This so much deeper than stepping "wearing the colors (as beautiful as they are) We need a REAL meeting run fairly so that we as sisters can come together to make the changes we need. How we can do this I don't know. But I do know that we have many very sharpe out of the box thinkers in our sisterhood. We don't ever want to see this happen again. Besides as good no make that great as Mo Kelly has been to us he needs a break. Ain't that right Mr. Kelly. How does a ten day cruise sound. LOL

If the question is concerning the Crying Doves and the Special Boule held in Baltimore in October 2009, let's just say that if you notice, haven't heard one peep since then.

Very very good advice AND strategy was provided by the president of my professional organization.

Apparently, I must have been the only one paying attention since NONE of it was implemented. I have been told, in so many words, that I should go and sit in the corner and let the young ones take care of business.

I'm from the school that really doesn't care about who's running it, only if "we're getting there".

Let's just say that "we ain't".

There were four candidates for the office of International Grand Basileus. None of them received a majority (more than 50%) of the vote. However, the front runner manipulated everything to look as though she was the true blue winner.

Those of us who want the right thing done have been stymied at every port of the blue and white storm.

The next lending contender (and the actual winner) recently circulated information through the sisterhood which essentially explained why, according to the applicable DC code for non-profit corporations she was actually the winner.

Problem, as always I suppose, is that neither lawyers nor judges know zip about parliamentary procedure.

In this particular case, it would seem that the judge's clerks failed to consult DC Code on the subjects of the requirement of a majority vote for an election as well as that the so-called "disappearing quorum" is not recognized.

Putting it simply, though a much smaller group remained for the second meeting, a majority vote was obtained prior to the scheduled (as in the printed boule journal) adjournment of 11:30 AM. At the time THAT particular vote was being taken, the current pretender was being privately sworn in upstairs in a hotel suite.

I was not physically present and the various reports are conflicting. However, no soror eligible to vote was prevented from participating in the "second" election which ultimately was the only valid one.

There have been a number of proposals that have been hanging on for the last six years – sent in by chapters but so far they have not yet been presented to the boule for consideration – for various reasons.

There is no possibility of healing. But AKA's documents are in better shape than ours. Trust me on these matters. The most current printed version is dated 2001 and amendments have been adopted since that do impact the membership.

    And so it goes……………………..

Thanks for staying on top of this, Mo. The ladies of AKA need leadership that reflects their commitment to excellence.

  25. Von 08 Avatar
    Von 08

Edda R…Thanks for providing detsils about the situation. Although I don't know you personally, your passion for Zeta Phi Beta is very obvious. One thing I hope that ALL the D9 will do is take a critical look at their governing documents. The documents are the foundation. The idea that "the young ones" should handle it is sad. Absolutely the younger members should be involved. But they certainly can't be good members if they haven't had excellent mentoring from the older members. I know you are frustrated. Believe me I understand. I'm a forty year member of AKA. What this horrible situation has done to so many of us is almost impossible to describe. I would love to see the Panhellenic plan a joint service project. There are so many communities we could help as a unit. Mmaybe then Edda we could meet as sister Greeks. I wish you the best at your Boule. My positive thoughts will be with all of you.

  26. Edda R. Avatar
    Edda R.

As to the question on calling a "Special Boule", all governance documents make provisions for calling special or call meetings. Usually for emergency situations.

It's just that in modern times it seldom happens.

As it relates to ours, somebody finally took the bull by the horns, although Soror Underwood sent out a blast about a week prior indicating that the meeting would be considered illegal and any results achieved would not be recognized.

About 4 hours later there was yet another blast from the Crying Doves where Soror Underwood's words were superimposed on the original "call".

As it was, the Atlantic Region convened their regional conference at another facility around the corner. Several sorors visited in both camps and actually the "blast" probably increased attendance.

The bylaws provide for a special boule upon the written petition of 25 financial chapters. Actually the provision isn't as strong as I would have written it, but it has been that way for years.

    Nobody had challenged it previously.

This time the NEB ignored the request (January board meeting) but the Crying Doves went ahead.

It probably helped that when I spread their call through my Zeta email address book (about a thousand sorors), I covered it with an indication that it seemed as though all known rules had been followed.

BTW, I will be here in St. Louis next week when they are "sweating" in Dallas. I chose not to spend about $1K to be treated as Soror Bonnie was.

They also serve who sit and wait. Battle is just heating up?

The race is not to the swift……..but to he who endureth?

I can see congressional hearings into these matters…………

  27. Rebecca K Avatar
    Rebecca K

I believe that we have more than one Soror in congress however I believe Sheila Jackson Lee is one of them and after she informed her constituents in Texas that despite their desire to support Obama she had to be loyal to Hilary because she had to be loyal to those who supported her….. I doubt she would take any other position than to kiss BAM's tail as she did Hilary's.

    Edda R…..

Thank you tremendously!! I will reread our docs page by page to see if we have such an out. I don't think we do but your description of yours has made me think that maybe I wasn't looking for the right thing.

It may well be that we will need to rely on the state non-profit corps laws to bring BAM and CHS to count.

Once BAM decided to take more than $25K/yr in salary she forfeited a hell of a lot of protections under Ill. law (as well as necessitating the purchase of insurance to cover her butt)….but the state law does NOT permit the directorate to vote to cover her on all of these things and today— she kept saying that "the directorate voted…". If they didn't have the authority then BAM and all of them are flying in the legal wind here….

  28. Von 08 Avatar
    Von 08

Rebecca K…I don't know if this is a rumor but the post stated that House-Stewart had appointed Sample-Oates International RD..If this is true we are going around in circles. Look at how many of the current board have remained in leadership positions..We still HAVE NOT had an opportunity to amend our documents. BAM will be long gone (probably in Dubai). The corruption will continue. We know that chapter presidents will not support accountability and transparency. We MUST find a way to revise the documents!!!

    Sunshine

I think we need to get people who were supposed to act in our best interest need to be removed from our organization. If the current documents don't support such action, don't wait to have them changed, use the court system to bring both civil and criminal charges against them that are consistent with their conduct of financial fudiciary misconduct

Yes diamond — but does she really HAVE to work with our $4K/mo retirement check AND whatever she made off the $375K we paid her last year?

    Von—

Yes, we ABSOLUTELY must get serious about our sorority if we love it. I agree with Sunshine — it will have to be through the legal system.

The Illinois State laws for non-profit corps trump our documents….OUR problem is that BAM arguably (very much so) has the will of the body behind her and thus could argue (up to the point where she chose to get placed in contempt) that she had the interest of the Sorority compeling her.

I think we could demonstrate otherwise…. but law is a WAYYYYY more of a art than it is a profession! It takes a hell of a lawyer to make a convincing argument in light of the kind of crap that happened at Boule.

One thing for sure….we need a private place for those concerned to share info and ideas.
