YouTube – Rand Paul defends his views on race

Mo’Kelly is obviously making this up.  Mo’Kelly is obviously not tired of using leftist plants to “smear” the tea party.  If Mo’Kelly had more time, he’d lay into Rand Paul and his “Tea Party” allegiance.

By the way Rand, it’s ok to come out and say you wish we were still segregated.  To thy own self be true.

Come on out the (race) closet.  This guy is so full of ish.  When in doubt, invoke the name of Dr. King.  And by the way…isn’t the term in 2010, “disabled”…not “handicapped?”  Then again, Rand Paul doesn’t live in the same era as the rest of us.

It's increasingly difficult to keep a Tea Party Talking Point, political reality and social reality alive in the same brain.

Some Republicans have begun to take note.

The "Tea Party Movement" will, in my view, run its course this year. November will not be as devastating for Democrats nor for incumbents as advertised.

Voters are looking for answers, not more divisiveness.

We'll see what the fall brings in…

Mo, I am convinced that this Rand Paul is living in another world than the rest of us. This is what can happen if we get too comfortable in our own existence and forget aabout the plight of those who are going through and have less than us. Where is his heart and empathy for those who have suffered for basic human rights?

    Paul has two problems:

    (1) He's a Libertarian. They believe in leaving people alone, which conflicts with the public accommodation laws. Of course the real tragedy is that he clearly had not thought about it enough before that.

    (2) He's been embraced; i.e., co-opted by the tea Party. They are the reason he won this primary and they are his only chance in the fall. "What would they want me to say?" is an unavoidable filter.

Where that leaves Rand Paul is clearly tied up in knots.

While he certainly might be a racist, I don't think there's enough info to be sure. He mouths all the platitudes about racism being abhorent, blahblahblah, but any closet racist would do the same, so that doesn't exonerate him. But I don't think this Civil Rights Act is a good lithmus either. Libertarian philosophy puts private ownership rights ahead of almost everything, including human rights and rights of citizenship, and while that does indeed leave the door Wide, Wdie open for discrimination of all kinds, it doesn't specifically endorse it.

    I agree completely with that.

However, it is important to separate ideals and philosophies from the need to govern and the need to live as one.

It's not just that racial discrimination is abhorrent; if you feel strongly enough about being with "your kind" (no matter WHAT that means to you), join a private club.

No, it's that this particular racial discrimination is rooted in viciousness and violence, and as Mo as well as others have pointed out, we can never be too sure that these things won't happen again (in fact, they've never really stopped).

What Paul has not yet figured out is that his ideals and philosophies will be twisted by others on his right as well as his left. There is no middle ground here: Either you understand the history of the abuse of blacks in this country or you don't. Either you insist that We The People stand against such a history or you're an appeaser.

    And appeasement leads to slaughter.
