Mo’Kelly will be co-authoring a book of quotes from grandmothers, grandfathers, parents and even pastors which have guided us throughout life…
Please submit your quotes (two-three lines max) and anecdotal story behind the quote (a paragraph) and the full name of the person who delivered the quote. Tell me how/when it was first told to you, maybe how old you were and how often is it called to remembrance even today.
Example:
From Morris O’Kelly of Los Angeles, CA:
“Never lose your head over a piece of tail.”
– William Kenneth Burgess
My grandfather was expressing to me at a very young age to keep things in perspective and not let the emotional toll of a relationship distract me from taking care of the other (and probably more important) issues in life. Relationship advice for a 5-year-old?! Imagine that. I remember like it was yesterday…having lunch at a greasy spoon diner with him and my father. You best believe I had no idea what he meant at the time, but oh how prophetic he was. Miss you Papa. Sorry it took awhile for me to take your advice.
Please submit your quote(s) of wisdom passed down in your family AND the anecdotal story to:

I had colorful grandmothers on both sides. One of my mom's mother's favorite sayings was "Either shit or get off the pot" meaning if your gonna do something do it already, don't just talk about it. Another favorite was "If you're going to keep crying I'll give you something to cry about" Not sure if that's cosidered a peril of wisdom but we did stop crying. We never wanted to see if she would follow through. That was my Grandma Kuebler
As a very curious person/child, I would always ask my Mom, where she was going and her response was always the same, "To hell, if I don't change my ways!" I never understood it as a young child and simply thought it was a way to avoid telling someone where you were going until it was my response to a 1st grade teacher. Yes, my mom got a call home that day and I never got in trouble for that one!
My Nana, who is quite an inspiration as a strong outspoken woman had many expressions. Some not so tactful but funny enough to this day, our family only uses the expressions out of humor. Her daily quote is "They don't know a shit'n ass thing". I suppose the key word is ass and we've all met one or two in our lives.
Lastly and my personal favorite quote my Nana used to say, "If you make love, you will have a girl, but if you just screw (for lack of using profanity), you will have a boy." I guess I proved her wrong twice. Enjoy your quotes/stories and good luck with your book.
