Now it is on and crackin’. In the writ, Purnell indicates knowledge of investigations by the IRS, Cook County Board of Commissioners and the Illinois Attorney General. And my favorite birdie over that the Department of Justice says…well, I can’t tell you what he/she says…that’s confidential. Significant and confidential. Take that any way you like.
Anyhow, former Supreme Basileus Purnell is now fully invested in the effort to save her sorority by filing the following Writ of Mandamus for Examination of Books and Records. It speaks for itself and speaks volumes. When a 92-year-old woman files a writ such as this on her own…let that set the example for anyone else who alleges to care about the future of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Like Mo’Kelly’s been saying…it ain’t over (Pardon my English).

Yes it is sad…sad because she is doing something others should be handling. Maybe if more of the young members take their leader (BAM) to task, she wouldn't have to. The plantiffs and past Supreme are trying to keep the torch lit, but they can't do it alone. What she is doing is a fine example of what a real member does. We need to get off the superficial stuff and handle the business! I hope it all works out.
I do as well. I'm ready for this to be over. I'm continuing to pray for my beloved sorority.
I am in complete agreement with SP..I am far from being a wealthy person but you can believe I will find some money to support Soror Jukia AND continue to support the plaintiffs. Also it's time for all the peacocks to quit flouncing around touting their "leadership" skils and avoiding the issue of integrity. It is disgraceful that the former leaders in particular the Regional Directors have avoided this issue. I know that several of the former national presidents are elderly and some have health issues. That is not the case for the regional directors. A 92 year old lady has taken this on and exhibits more courage than women half her age. My sorors want to run around talking about "old school" Soror Julia is a shinig example of old time morality and integrity.
So happy to see this and I wish Soror Purnell well. I have supported with donations and will continue to do so as well. So sad that other folks that are half her age and should be representing the best interests of AKA's membership are standing by as our assets are pilfered by a common criminal calling herself a "soror". I can't wait until justice hits Barbara McKinzie upside her salt and pepper head like a ton of bricks!
OMG… Soror Julia too??? It makes me sad that a 90+ year old woman is worrying about this stuff instead of enjoying her life in peace. 🙁
Skee wee!, I firmly believe that if we did what we were supposed to and held our leadership accountable, Soror Julia and the other plaintiffs would not have to deal with this. It would have been handled in house a looooooooog time ago. And handled fairly. We can only blame ourselves for Soror Julia’s having to bother with this, We’ll see what happens with the regional conferences. I know what I’m doing and it ain’t taking this mess sitting down. I don’t resign myself to “old school” and old time morality and integrity. These qualities are timeless as evidenced by Soror Julia. Work it out sorors, work it out!
SUKI, SUKI now!!God bless Soror Julia!! I believe that IRS will conduct a forensic audit, and then it will really hit the fan!! Mo, keep it comin’ frat!!
I wonder how Barbara liiks in orange.
Sorry for the typo, I mean I wonder how Barbara looks in orange
Soror Julia Brogden Purnell we admire, respect, appreciate and love you for standing for truth & justice. It is so unfortunate, we can not say the same of our other former & current leaders in the organzation.
In matters of facts & principles, stand like a rock or like our Beloved Soror Julia!!
It appears our present and past leaders are gutless. Soror Purnell has made history as the only senior leader that has exemplify integrity in stating the facts and principles of AKA in this legal battle. God Bless Her!
What must we as an organization look like to the other members of the Divine Nine? It is not the fact that we had a crook as rhe national president. Nor is it the fact that ALL of the others in leadership positions supported and enabled the crook. What has to be raising eyebrows is HOW we are dealing with the situation. It started with members who wanted to keep everything secret. It continues with the members who want to believe that silence is the best action. We have Soror Julia our Senior Supreme to show us how you clean up a mess. I amthankful to Soror Purnell. I do not regret that I’ve chosen to stand on the side of integrity.
Soror Julia, you go girl….Our Founders are smiling down upon you. Julia Purnell is an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman.
Barbara Mc Kinzie, you have no shame! Barbara, your days are limited.
It was reported that Bernie Madoff received an old fashioned…’smack-down'(facial fractures, broken ribs, collapsed lung) from a black belt inmate who didn’t like a few things that Bernie did (Hmm, what could that have been?)
It also was reported that a few prison gangs have tried to recruit Madoff, including the “Homosexual Posse”.
BAM, hope you’ve been practicing your katas or, at least, have choosen your favorite flavored pillow to take with you.
I’m sure you’ll play nice with your new friends, and I’m sure they’ll find you…”pink” and “green”.
The other former presidents should truly examine themselves. For them to back off in fear and allow a 90+ year old woman to carry this alone is a bit much.
Lynn Green…I agree with your comment. But because several of the former SB are quite elderly and have health issues I can allow them a pass. That is NOT the case for former RDs. They too have enabled BAM with their silence. That is completely unacceptable.
Von08 Eva Evans and Norma White r not that old. Those who preceded them r not 2 old 2 accept BAM’s gifts.. They do not deserve a pass..they r SPINELESS!!
Norma Solomon and Eva Evans are part of the problem. Both need to explain their reasons for protecting McKinzie. We learned that Norma White was a flunky for Mc Kinzie, shaving of AKA funds for McKinzie’s personal gain.
I truly hope that our members open their eyes to this and stop thinking that this type of behavior exhibited by BAM is acceptable. I think, when the new administration take their sit, we need to write letters demanding the reinstatement of the eight plaintiffs. Please print, email and distribute Soror Julia’s writ of Mandamus to any Soror you know. We need to get the word out.
A DC Soror…I stand corrected..Although I know Bernice Sumlin, Mary Shy Scott and Larzette Hale have/had some health issues. You are absolutely right. BAM has passed out more gifts than Santa and the Easter Bunny combined!!! Those who received gifts don’t want to own up. Maybe they naively believed the gifts were innocent presents from BAM. Nonetheless now they know better. They can take whatever it was admit it apologize and get on the side of accountability. It continues to amaze me that the allegations mount and STILL these women don’t want to speak up for the right thing. Taking the gifts was a mistake. That happens to humans. Not owning up to it is an entirely different matter. We can be pretty sure though that with the smackdown Soror Linda gave BAM from heaven, Soror Linda was NOT on the gift list!!
Von08 AMEN SISTA, AMEN!!But I must say my heart is sooo sad, so sad. If we r not going 2 regional, soros pls send that money as a donation 2 Soror Julia!!
Hey Mo,
Are you coming to the Gaylord this week? Hope to see you there!
I can’t say that I am. I’m done traveling for awhile.
You will truly be missed! I will be sure to fill you end, as ESO speak her lies.
When is someone going to recommend Julia Purnell for suspension since she has filed a suit against the Sorority? That must be some discussion point behind Directorate closed doors. I can’t wait for them to finally make a decision. This has got to be good.
