The lady in the first video:"She couldn't entertain a dead rat." WELL DAMN!

Mo', you need to let go of your Whitney grudge. ;0

I'm just reporting the news. SHE made the dead rat comment, not ME! 🙂

quiet as it's kept, she STILL sounds better than some of the little tarts running around here these days.

Yeah she does. But unfortunately she had a career and catalog full of ballads requiring actual singing ability. The tarts don't have that responsibility. The tarts aren't talented and sad to say, neither is Whitney anymore. Talent is a finite gift with an expiration date.

    Physical talent is certainly finite.

This was hard to experience. I give singers enormous latitude to express themselves. Their voice will not be in the same shape every night and they have to give us what they can with what they have.

And for that they deserve our respect.

Let me give you an example, a rather stark one:

    [youtube =http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XVVZPefbR4&hl=en_US&fs=1&]

So there are times when I can be moved by a less than stellar vocal.

Key difference: The artist is not trying to pretend they can do what they normally do. On "Always" it sounded very much like she was trying to fake it, instead of just confessing to what she had to work with, and giving us shades from that palette.

Then again, live performance is a high wire act to start with, let alone the paralyzing fear that must ensue if you start to think you maybe can't give these people what they want.

But they'll spot an attempted fake-out for 100% certain, so just go up there and say 'I apologize but I can't hit all the notes tonight that you may remember me for. Hopefully I'll leave you with something else that entertains you.'

And then, having previously rehearsed so you know 'what you got', go give 'em just that.

Nothing more, nothing less, nothing faked. Audiences are remarkably forgiving. Show them your human side and they will be with you.

Whitney has a lot of stored up love, she set the standard for the modern diva and earned every rung on that ladder.

Love ruined her. Who can't relate to that?

She deserves this comeback, and probably needs it in more than one way.

One thing for certain, there is still a voice in there. I don't know if she's reached expiration or if she just needs to get it worked out.

But I also believe there are other ways she can express herself. She is first and foremost a performer.

Wow, that was in two words "Aw-Ful". How sad that someone who one possessed one of the most powerful voices in the industry is reduced to this!!!
