Washington Business Journal Highlights ‘Questionable’ Howard Law Connection

Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange

The Mo’Kelly Report does it again!

From the Washington Business Journal

“The plaintiffs — and the dozens of angry AKA’ers who e-mailed InnerLoop in the wake of the decision — are still weighing their options. One area of concern for them: Combs Greene attended Howard Law School at the same time as one of the AKA defendants, and that defendant, Vicki Miles-LaGrange, is a federal judge in Oklahoma. Both judges were appointed by President Bill Clinton. The plaintiffs think Combs Greene should have recused herself. Without getting all legal-like, we’ll say this much and leave it for you to judge: In D.C., a judge must recuse him or herself from any case in which there is “an appearance of bias or prejudice sufficient to permit the average citizen reasonably to question [the] judge’s impartiality.”

Dale Cooter, who represented the AKA defendants, said it would be inappropriate to comment.”

Anyone else care to question the influence of The Mo’Kelly Report?

"DOZENS of angry AKA'ers" (out of 60,000+ active members)…doesn't even warrant a comment.

How about this comment. "Grounds for an appeal." Notice Cooter didn't dare comment. It is irrelevant "how many" did or did not email. Let me spell this out for you in the simplest of terms. There is now public record of the "questionable" association. I'm not a lawyer but I'm pretty sure that could be grounds for an appeal. Not only that. If it weren't "worthy" of a comment…why did you?

      Exactly.

This is a tweet from Melissa Castro from February 3rd. It sounds like there were more than a handful of AKA's who emailed her.

"I think my email is going to crash, thanks to a deluge of emails from very concerned members of #AKA and #alphakappaalpha. You have my ear.

I'm one of the "dozens" who emailed Ms. Castro. I do have questions about Judge Green Why did she in her dismissal using language that was so similar to BAMs "eviscerate" (word used by a reporter) the plaintiffs? I don't hold out a great deal of hope that if a wrong has been done in DC it will be corrected. Too much "you scratch my back….going on there. I will follow Kenitra's case. There is such a great deal of tie in. BAM and the mob have had a good deal of time to buid their cover up stories. Mo' you are so right as usual. I just want to see how these white collar crooks from the corporate office will explain themselves. I wish Kenitra had a tape recorder or video camera in that office!!

Don't underestimate the amount of dissatisfaction with the leadership of AKA. I assure you it is more than "dozens" who are sick of BAM's mess.

This is Black History Monyh. Judge Green's "smack down decision" may have allowed the mission of the premier Black organization to be redifined by people with questionable integrity. OR future Black historians will note that when the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha was threatened and revealed the membership took charge and redirected their sorority back to its original purpose. We'll see!!!

I to contacted Ms. Castro, I have no ideal who she is but I wanted her to know my feelings, she can misrepresent or represent. I don't care. She may even be collecting emails for BAM. I don't care. BAM will be stopped. I just want her to step aside or resign. Didn't either happen so now I just say BAM open the books.

However, the concern is whether BAM will have to open the financial books given that she and her attorneys delayed responding to the discovery request until this decision was made.

For Ms. Shackelford's case, the financial documents are not at issue and will not be required. Unless the IRS performs a special investigation or WI8 appeal, it is highly likely that BAM will accomplish what was more than likely the initial point, avoiding publicizing the true financial misuse.

To Hard Working Basileus, even with all of dissatisfaction, is there nothing that those are unhappy are willing to do themselves?

To Kisshia…there is a lot being done, however, posting just gives a heads up to BAM to try to squash efforts. Believe me…I am not sitting back taking the abuse. Action.

When the time comes my anonymity will not be an issue. When Attorney Gray asked us to write letters, I did that. I signed my name. My email to Ms. Castro I signed my name. I wear my support button. When the RDs said BAM was going to "get the names of those who posted against her", I continued to read and post on the Weeping Ivy site. I have done and will do nothing that is illegal. That BAM personally does not like my opinion is her problem. Also at this point suspension doesn't concern me. I'll be there in St. Louis very visible and staunchly supportive of accountability and transparency.

Von, good luck. BAM is working a plan to shut members down at Boule. She is purchasing clothing for her supporters to wear. She is going to have a hostess seated at every table. she is going to set the agenda so that time will not allow discussion. She will set the rules to support her agenda. She is writing the report ts to cover herself. Again good luck! If you couldn't stop her in your chapter and the media; What do you think you are going to do at Boule. If there is no quorum, there is no business. BAM is going to be take out by the courts. It cost money, support the FOTWI. I want see you in ST. Louis but I will be in court. All judges are not willing to sell their soul. BAM shouldn't even get to ST. Louis and that's my thought.

Love…I respect your decision not to attend the Boule and to wait for justice from the court. Judge Green has said it's internal handle it. If we can't get help from the legal system and BAM controls everything what should we do? I am not expecting BAM to welcome those who oppose her corruption. I still think that I can be supportive. Some delegate may offer a change in the by laws that will open our books. I can stand and applaud her. If Soror Purnell is there, I can join those who will give her a standing ovation. That is something I won't give BAM. I'm not worried about a hostess at a table. I don't plan to attend anything other than business meetings. I don't pretend to think that my presence will influence BAM in any way. But this may be my last connection with the sisterhood. I want to say that I went and stood with the others who support accontability and transparency. Even though the numbers may be very small.

Von8-I agree, when the time comes anonymity will not be an issue because sorors will be free to express their concerns without fear of retaliation. That is what a healthy society encourages-free civil discourse to bring about postiive change for the good of all. I have posted, written letters, donated to the legal efforts and made by law proposals. We will emerge from this SICK dictatorship, bruised but stronger. I'll see you at Boule where I refuse to be shut up. In the meantime, I continue to work to get AKA back on course.

HardWorking Basileus…Does your chapter know how truly lucky they are :0) My experience with local leadership has been so disheartening!! They are so determined to move up to regional and/or national positions they will not do anything that would put them on BAM's "list". I hope that your executive board is supportive. It is so refreshing to know that there are some in leadership roles who are concerned with what is right. I'm putting you right there with the Baseli from the Virginia chapters…Outstanding leadership!!
