Mo’Kelly is Psychic…Ralph Nader and Dr. Cornel West Unveil Proposal to Challenge Obama in Primaries
“Progressive leaders led by Ralph Nader and Cornel West unveiled a proposal today to challenge President Obama in the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries in 2012.
The proposal, which has been endorsed by over 45 distinguished leaders, seeks to have a slate of six candidates run against President Obama, each representing a field in which Obama has never clearly staked a progressive claim or where he has drifted toward the corporatist right.
“Without debates by challengers inside the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries, the liberal/majoritarian agenda will be muted and ignored,” said Ralph Nader.”

(On a side note, it should be noted that the news of this proposal was sent out by Tavis Smiley’s TV show publicist. Take that for what it’s worth. It is also relevant to highlight as to the messenger and how this message is being sent out. Mo’Kelly’s not sure how Tavis’ TV show is connected to Ralph Nader…Just sayin’. It most definitely calls into question one’s agenda and who tangentially is connected to it and promoting it.)

Washington Post Lays in to Dr. Cornel West with ‘Birther’ Comparison
To be clear, Mo’Kelly loves Dr. West…but to be also clear, it seems to be open
season on him from many corners of the house of the Black Intelligentsia. He’s grown, he can take it. Mo’Kelly wants no parts of this. From The Washington Post
West is no better than a birther. By making petty complaints in that Truthdig interview about the lack of returned phone calls and not getting Inauguration tickets, West is no different than Gingrich in 1995 , when his displeasure over his seat on Air Force One led to a government shutdown.”

Harsh Criticism of Dr. Cornel West (and Tavis Smiley) in Renewed Obama Debate
Our last hope is to generate a democratic awakening among our
fellow citizens. This means raising our voices, very loud and strong, bearing witness, individually and collectively. Tavis [Smiley] and I have talked about ways of civil disobedience, beginning with ways for both of us to get arrested…”
- Dr. Cornel West
God help us if Cornel West and Tavis Smiley getting arrested is our last chance at a democratic awakening.”
As West derides the President’s economic policies he remains silent on his friend Tavis Smiley’s relationship with Wal-Mart, Wells Fargo, and McDonald’s—all corporations whose invasive and predatory actions in poor and black communities have been the target of progressive organizing for decades. I have never heard him take Tavis Smiley to task for helping convince black Americans to enter into predatory mortgages. I’ve never heard him ask whether Tavis’ decision to publish R. Kelly’s memoirs might be a less than progressive decision. He doesn’t hold Tavis accountable because Tavis is his friend and he is loyal.
From – Cornel West V. Barack Obama
The Nation magazine goes hard at Dr. West with not-so-thinly veiled shots at Smiley in creating a narrative that the criticism of President Obama in 2011 is linked to personal animus dating back to a perceived inauguration snub in 2009 and historical close association with chief critic Tavis Smiley.

Al Sharpton and Dr. Cornel West Debate President Obama’s ‘Black Agenda’ (VIDEO)
The video is enough for this discussion. Mo’Kelly has addressed this enough, no need for extra commentary. But what IS interesting is that Dr. West campaigned for President Obama, stumping for him all around the country. Before you allege Dr. West is a hater, get your facts in order.
Conversely, many feel Al Sharpton is only on board because the White House offers Sharpton access to the president…meaning support of the National Action Network specifically, not African-Americans more generally.
You decide…

The Mo'Kelly Report Interviews Dr. Cornel West (Audio)
Someone once said, “you know my glory, but not my story.” The accolades that continue to rain down on Dr. Cornel are plentiful to be sure, but often obscure the trials and travails along his trodden path to becoming America’s leading public intellectual. Rarely will you encounter someone like Dr. West, equally revered in the world of Hip Hop as well as the halls of academia.
From his signature afro, to scarf and trademark 3-piece black suit; Dr. West has not only made philosophy and theology “quintessentially cool,” more importantly he continues to serve as a voice for the under-served and marginalized people of America and beyond.
This week Dr. West celebrates the release of his new book, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud – A Memoir and it is my privilege to welcome into The Mo’Kelly Report, the inimitable Dr. Cornel West.
