Suspected Shooter Arrested in MURDER at Creflo Dollar’s Church!

Yes, Mo’Kelly said MURDER!

_____________

Floyd Palmer

Police arrested the suspect Wednesday afternoon in the fatal shooting of a church member at World Changers Church International in College Park.

Floyd Palmer, 52, was arrested at Lenox Square in Buckhead just before 4 p.m., according to the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Authorities said Palmer allegedly shot Greg McDowell, 39, Wednesday morning at the megachurch founded by televangelist Creflo Dollar. Dollar was not at the church at the time of the shooting, according to police.

Police identified McDowell, of Union City, as a member and prayer leader at the church. Police said McDowell was shot around 10:30 a.m. and later died. Lester said it was not yet clear whether McDowell was targeted by the shooter or shot randomly.

Fulton County police spokeswoman Cpl. Kay Lester said Palmer, a former employee who resigned in August, “walked calmly into the church and left just as calmly,” after the shooting.

But wait…there’s MORE!

This isn’t even the FIRST murder at the church.  Navigate on over to “Obnoxious’” blog for even more information and background on these events HERE.

Creflo Dollar Arrest Police Report + 911 Call (AUDIO)

Hat tip to NewsOne.com for getting its hands on the Creflo Dollar police report. It really doesn’t matter what Creflo says in front of his congregation. There are two witnesses who contradict what he has to say and are on the record…as in his daughters. You don’t necessarily need physical wounds to prove an assault and battery, a corroborating witness goes a long way.

See the full report HERE.

Also, hear the 911 call…a very, very calm “9-1-1″ call.  I’m not saying that people can’t be calm dialing 9-1-1.  I’m just saying that 9-1-1 is usually reserved for emergencies.  You be the judge.

Don’t Put Creflo Dollar in Physical Discipline Debate

Creflo Dollar

Amid all of the primary conversation of whether Atlanta megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar put his hands on his 15-year old daughter (and to what extent); the secondary conversation has been mostly concerned with the concept of physical discipline of children. You have the ardent Dollar supporters who support him regardless of the charges, circumstances…or even the evidence for that matter. They will recite “touch not my anointed” quicker and more frequently than baskets in the NBA playoffs; not pausing to consider whether Dollar is actually anointed or even innocent for that matter. You have the religious cynics seizing the moment to mock Christianity generally and the pastor in question more specifically. And we can’t forget those in the pastoral community who blithely trot out the instructions to not “judge” and simply “pray” for those involved; never actually taking a stand against either the aberrant behavior or stand in solidarity with the victim(s) after the fact.

Somewhere in the midst of the aforementioned groups, we in the African-American community probably can find ourselves.

Whether or not Creflo Dollar abused his daughter…that is a worthy conversation to be had. Whether or not physical discipline has any place in the rearing of kids, that too is worthy fodder for dialogue. Conflating the two is horribly misguided and does a disservice to any attempt to sincerely address either.

Regardless of whether you believe the allegations against Creflo Dollar, just know that choking, punching (closed hand) and beating with a shoe are not examples of physical discipline. They are felony assaults in most states. It is nowhere near the neighborhood of spankings, be they with hands, belts or switches. The intent, violence and end results are in no way comparable. Choking can lead to death by asphyxiation; and sometimes does accidentally. A grown man punching (closed hand) a 15-year old girl is not “discipline,” it is cowardly and criminal. Do not conflate what allegedly happened in the Dollar house with any discussion of “tough love” or “what’s wrong with today’s youth.” They are separate, distinct and unrelated.

Let me be clear…

I am all for physical discipline, regardless of the various laws around the nation. In California, child abuse is defined as follows:

“Neglect; willful cruelty or unjustifiable punishment; any physical injury inflicted other than by accidental means.”

By strict interpretation, any one of us who received a spanking or was slapped by our parents was a victim of “child abuse.”

I am NOT for the actual abuse of children. There is a difference, irrespective of how the law reads. My father taking a belt to my backside dozens of times taught me about decisions, consequences and penalties. It was to teach me in the safety of the home, before having to be taught by either the judicial system or a morgue.

When my mother shook me like a pair of dice after running into the street without scanning for approaching traffic, it was the clearest way to elucidate the seriousness and consequences of poor decision-making; without me having to actually get hit by a car for her point to stick. I was 6 years old, not mature enough to be reasoned with or politely explained the severity of the moment. When she smacked me for sucking my teeth at her later in life, it reaffirmed the separation between adult and child. There is a code of conduct for children, including how not to address adults. There’s no doubt that we need to re-instill certain values in young people. I get it. I also get that some of that if not all of that played into the events leading up to the altercation between Dollar and his daughter. But the moment the variables of fists and chokes become part of the equation, we’ve entered a wholly different realm. The discussion of physical discipline is officially over.

I can’t come before you and articulate exactly where the line is, separating corrective physical discipline and true child abuse.  But I can say, punching and choking are way on the other side of it. This is not one of those gray area discussions. The only discussion in relation to Dollar should be if he’s guilty and if so, how long should he go to jail; not whether the child somehow had it coming or whether youth today need more discipline.

Regardless of the circumstances, such a physical response from a grown man could never be deemed proportionate or justified in nature.

Never, not ever.

A grown, healthy man punching and choking a child (by all determinations) is not, was not and will never be an acceptable manner in which to mete out punishment or to deter future disobedience. Not only that, it begs the question as to how severely lacking the parental process was in the years leading up to altercation. You don’t arrive at throwing haymakers and making daughters “tap out” MMA-style, overnight. There was a progression of preceding events.

If we as a community wish to discuss the value and virtue of physical discipline in the rearing of children, I’m all for it. Just don’t use the alleged actions of Creflo Dollar to help make your case. We should all be able to distinguish between good parenting and inexcusable criminal behavior. If not, then you shouldn’t have children (or be ministers); the Dollars included.

Creflo Dollar Arrested – Twitterverse Set Ablaze (High Comedy)

(Mo’Kelly will have commentary in the coming days as more facts come out.)

Megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar has been arrested after authorities say he

Creflo Dollar

slightly hurt his 15-year-old daughter in a fight at his metro Atlanta home.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigator Brent Rowan says deputies responded to a call of domestic violence at the home around 1 a.m. Friday.

Rowan says the 50-year-old pastor and his daughter were arguing over whether she could go to a party when Dollar “got physical” with her, leaving her with “superficial injuries.”

Dollar faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. He bonded out of Fayette County jail Friday morning. Dollar’s lawyer Nikki Bonner said he’s gathering information on the case and had no comment.

CNN Commentator Goldie Taylor had an “interesting” tweet in response to the arrest.

Dollar is the pastor for World Changers Church International in College Park. A spokeswoman for the church did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

And here come the “other” tweets

We Are and Continue to Be the Blame for Bishop Eddie Long

The tweets were likely fleeting in nature, consistent with how the multitude of us use Twitter to socially interact. Momentary thoughts, ephemeral emotions…140 character snapshots of one’s conscience. CNN commentator Roland Martin has come under fire for two tweets during the Super Bowl which GLAAD argued were homophobic and encouraged violence against the LGBT community.

Regardless of whether one finds merit in GLAAD’s complaint or instead supports Martin’s sense of humor, know that the response from the LGBT community was swift, direct and immediate in nature. GLAAD has asked for CNN to fire Martin. As of this writing, CNN had not offered a final decision.

UPDATE: CNN Suspends Roland Martin (2.8.12)

That was Sunday, both the controversial action and the subsequent response.

Monday, parents mostly Latino in nature protested the inaction and lack of communication in the wake of the arrest of two teachers for sexual misconduct at Miramonte Elementary School in Los Angeles. In response to the protests and other public outcry, the whole of the teaching staff was immediately replaced.

Immediately.

Also Monday, the social pariah Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Baptist church in Atlanta offered an apology to the Anti-Defamation League in response to a controversial “coronation” ceremony performed by Rabbi Ralph Messer the previous week. The video of the service went viral, instantly sparking immediate outrage from Jewish community leaders.

The Jewish community outrage and eventual apology were separated by fewer than 48 hours.

That was Monday.

Three separate ethnic and/or social constituencies used their social capital to leverage media and public opinion to force an immediate redress of issues.

Although the outrage in regards to the Eddie Long ceremony in New Birth (an African-American church) was unanimous irrespective of race, nobody within the African-American religious community stepped forward and demanded an apology. In fact, let the record reflect that Eddie Long took fewer than 48 hours to offer a public apology to the Jewish community for an offensive ceremony, yet to this day has said nothing about the foolishness surrounding his behavior leading up to his sexual coercion settlement involving five young males.

There has been no widespread public call within the religious community demanding for him to step down, be sat down or altogether shutdown.

One might wonder why some of the other African-American megachurches haven’t leveraged their power individually and collectively to express their own outrage at Bishop Long. Right now, the ADL seemingly has more power in affecting Eddie Long’s behavior than his own peers. As of this writing, not one Black megachurch preacher has spoken out against Eddie Long.

Not one. Zero. Null set.

UPDATE 12.9.12: Although I knew of Bishop Paul S. Morton’s youtube video and public rebuke of Eddie Long, Mo’Kelly was originally under the impression that St. Stephens was not a megachurch.  Some local readers to the area have emailed Mo’Kelly indicating that St. Stephens is in fact a megachurch.  Thus noted here.

T. D. Jakes of the Potter’s House in Dallas, TX recently offered the following to CNN while discussing Long’s impending divorce and previous sexual coercion charges.

If there was actually misconduct, the young men involved in the case were old enough to make their own decisions. They are not juveniles.”

Jakes conveniently skipped over the fact that Long was married and adamantly against all types of homosexual behavior. Jakes blithely disregarded the inherent moral and ethical contradictions given Long’s position and power. Despite Jakes’ stance, it really is acceptable to assess blame on the married man engaging in sexual behavior with adolescents (they were not 18) in the discussion of said man’s divorce. Jakes, for whatever reason, stopped short of finding ANY fault with Long.

But true to form, Jakes did find time to blast the GOP for supporting Newt Gingrich over his children as janitors remarks and that Gingrich is “a thrice-married, twice-divorced adulterer.”

Evidently multiple marriages, divorces, adultery and disparaging behavior towards young people don’t apply to Long; who is now twice-married/divorced with an 8-figure settlement connected to homosexual acts of adultery.

The hypocrisy is beyond staggering, it is stupefying. The remarks on both Gingrich and Long came THE SAME DAY, December 11, 2011 in two different interviews.  The links don’t lie.

What Jakes doesn’t seem to understand is that when viewing someone head-on, it makes talking out of both sides one’s mouth much more obvious.

Prosperity preacher Creflo Dollar, with ministries in Atlanta, New York and his own private jet to ferry him between the two, told those in his audience who came to his church after leaving Eddie Long they should “go back.”

He too absolved Long of guilt and blame.

Eddie Long remains in his pulpit after an alleged 8-figure sexual coercion settlement, impending divorce and the only people in the religious community adamant in their anger towards him were Jews…for reasons wholly unrelated to the more serious ones?

Really?

Seriously?

One of Long’s accusers Anthony Flagg, alleged he accompanied Long on overnight trips to New York, Dallas and other cities; most of which “coincidentally” connected to other Black megachurch preachers in league with Long on the Federal Marriage Amendment.

A coincidence, to be sure (wink, wink).

Flagg in subsequent interviews also indicated he stayed in the W Hotel in Times Square, which happens to also be the place where megachurch pastor Zachery Tims was found dead with a powdery substance on his person.

Just in case you were wondering, Flagg says he also stayed with Long at the W Hotel in Dallas, just 12 miles from T.D. Jakes’ main campus.

Of course this is all coincidental and circumstantial (wink, wink).

How quickly were the late Joe Paterno and the university president removed and fired respectively for their mishandling of the Penn State sexual abuse scandal?

Exactly.

Eddie Long continues to “offend” people specifically because we in the African-American community have abrogated our responsibility to protect our children. We have allowed his ministry to continue with little more than angry editorials and spirited radio commentary.

New Birth is not just “a” cult but seemingly a link in a chain of interconnected, prosperity-preaching cults; guided not by sound Christian tenets but something altogether nefarious and un-Christian in nature.

The common thread between Penn State, Miramonte and New Birth is that somebody did nothing when circumstances required far more; allowing young people to be abused. If there is immediate action in the moment, future misdeeds can be averted. The communities surrounding Penn State and Miramonte took immediate steps to make sure the right actions were taken.

New Birth…nothing.  We as African-Americans did nothing.  This is on us, as are his future transgressions.  We have allowed Long to proceed with impunity. He will embarrass and “abuse” the African-American community again and again, until we put an end to it and his ministry once and for all. We just have to care enough and love our own children enough to stand up for them.

“The New Birth church is a church unto itself who has a board and it has a membership. How they choose to handle their leadership issues it’s not something that we can control regardless of which side you stay on that issue. It is their church issue and their responsibility and their response,” said Bishop Jakes.

“And I’m saying what I always said that we should just keep on praying for the New Birth church family.” Source: Christian Post

There is not really anything Mo’Kelly can say here.  If you don’t see how Jakes is protecting and covering for Bishop Eddie Long, that’s a you problem.

This is not a “leadership” issue, it’s a Body of Christ issue.  It is an iniquity issue which is not bound by any denomination or church constitutional bylaws.  Maybe T.D. Jakes forgot that he is the head and not the tail.  Maybe someone needs to sit him down and explain to him spiritual authority.

Just maybe…

BREAKING: New Report Puts Eddie Long Settlement Closer to 25 Million!

WOWZERS!

Full story HERE.

ATLANTA, June 8, 2011, 3 a.m.New Birth Missionary Baptist Church pastor Bishop Eddie Long is paying nearly $25 million and has given an apology to settle claims he had sexual relationships with four young male parishioners, a source has told Redding News Review.

The source, who claims to be familiar with the details of the settlement and did not wish to be identified, said that Long refused to give a public apology, which ended up costing him more.

What began as a $2 million agreement to settle the case for each of the four men quickly rose to $5.5 million for the respective plaintiffs, the source said, only because Long refused to publically admit guilt.

The men are to divide $2.2 million equally and then receive $400,000 in payments until the money is paid out over the next 20 years, the source said. The final figure comes to $22 million for the four men and $2.8 million for the plaintiffs attorneys.

Creflo and Eddie Sitting in a Tree…

Finish the nursery rhyme however you like, but in the final analysis it is clear that Long and Dollar are more concerned with protecting the livelihoods of one another than the souls of those in their respective congregations.

Bishop Eddie Long, fresh off writing a fat check to his four accusers and signing a non-disclosure agreement was back in the pulpit, asking his congregation for donations upwards of $1,000 to help fund the supposed expansion of New Birth westward to Denver.

No contrition or apology for dragging the name of the church through the mud for the last nine months; just an appeal for more money. No public acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by the remaining members who had to endure the embarrassment having nothing to do with them. No humility whatsoever…just a plea for more money.

This…having nothing to do with the reality that the previous tithes and offerings would help pay in part the settlement with the four accusers.

And can we officially stop calling them “accusers” now? Bishop Eddie Long it would seem forfeited any claim to innocence the moment he opened up his check book. He had the option of clearing his name in court but instead thought it more prudent to pay for it all to go away.

They are no longer accusers.

To the victors go the spoils and to the members of New Birth…you get the gas face.

Long is going to keep his private jet, his Bentley and other symbols of excess while his members pay for the settlement, his increased insurance premiums and the expansion of New Birth to Denver. The cost of maintaining a private jet alone could fund a dozen churches. The cost of a Bentley is more than the budgets of many moderately sized churches for an entire year.

Nevertheless, Long wants his remaining members to dig deep into their pockets to help “expand” the church, while he does absolutely nothing.

New Birth members get the gas face.

Eddie Long clearly doesn’t love the Lord or his members. If you stay under the ministerial leadership of Bishop Eddie Long, you deserve all of the future mistreatment coming your way. The Lord gave you better sense than that. You simply refuse to use it. At this point, it’s a “you” problem, not an Eddie Long one.

Sometimes “free will” is awfully expensive when one makes poor choices.

Creflo and Eddie sitting in a tree…

Speaking of Creflo…

By now, most readers have seen the recent sermon by fellow Atlanta megachurch pastor Creflo Dollar, in which he admonished believers who may have defected from New Birth, yet ended up at Dollar’s church. If former New Birthers were unclear or unsure whether they traded one demon for another…Dollar made it abundantly clear.

Instead of opening the doors to the church for those wounded in heart and spirit…he cast them out as traitors to Bishop Long.  And oh yeah, says Long has “insurance.”  He must mean Geico because the Blood comes with the caveat of confession of sins, not cash settlements for them.

Let’s see if Mo’Kelly has this right…

Anyone who leaves New Birth due to the lawsuit and settlement surrounding Eddie Long is out of order? Pedophilia, adultery, sodomy, sexual predatory predilections…etc. but the wounded in spirit are in the wrong? Dollar characterized the failings of Long as “a wreck”…akin to an unforeseen, unfortunate accident, in which blame is neither important nor worthy of being pointed at Long. Dollar is clear that he loves Eddie Long more than the Lord or anyone in search of salvation.

Creflo and Eddie sitting in a tree…

What more do people need to see?

Such admonition is unbiblical, unconscionable and the method employed is nothing short of unbelievable. Ignore the victims and then blame the very people responsible for footing the bill for the actions of Eddie Long? Eddie Long is now being treated unfairly by his congregation?

Really?

Creflo and Eddie sitting in a tree…

The admission and admonition by Creflo Dollar say volumes. The admission that Eddie Long was out of order and “wrong” in these circumstances can not and should not be ignored. Neither can the subsequent admonition of defectors in light of the “wreck.” In the video Dollar is clear that Long is his “friend” and that he will have his back until the wheels fall off. Such a stance suggests that Dollar is more than mildly acquainted with Long and his tendencies. If he knows Long…then he knows Long. Dollar can’t have it both ways.

There was no rebuke of the behavior…only the believer. What more do you need to see?

There is no acknowledgment of the pain Eddie Long inflicted, only chastising those who are rightfully in pain. Do y’all get it yet?

Creflo and Eddie, sitting in a tree…

Creflo Dollar and Eddie Long neither love the Lord nor the souls in their care. They are clear that they are only about the business of guarding the other’s business. You can either recognize this for what it is, or you can pull out your check book and help New Birth expand to Denver.

And for your troubles, maybe Eddie Long will let you wash his private jet before he flies to Denver.

Clearly, Dollar has more than just passing knowledge of his “friend” and his “issues.” He freely admits Long’s failings and justifies them in the same breath…nary a word in rebuke of the behavior. How he is able to reconcile the two is anybody’s guess. Nevertheless, it is a clear signal that Dollar is complicit in the behavior of Eddie Long.

You can’t acknowledge the deviant behavior and also not condemn it as a leader in the church.  Instead Dollar condemned the believers who sought spiritual balance elsewhere.

See it for what it is.

One has to wonder whether Dollar is next to suffer a “wreck” or is somehow connected to Long’s “wreck.” It warrants asking the question.

In the meantime, it is clear who Dollar loves…

Creflo and Eddie, sitting in a tree…

Take that however you wish. Just know that neither loves you or the Lord.
