Black Carpenter: Straight Talk to Build a Solid Foundation
Actor Brian White is seen by most on the silver screen or on the stage, that much we
already know. What’s less often given its due attention is his work mentoring and guiding young people.
With that in mind, White along with co-author Anna Cheshire Levitan have recently released the book, Black Carpenter: Straight Talk to Build a Solid Foundation.
White says “The purpose of Black Carpenter is to create a tool box of essential life skills for the next generation.”
Hell, this generation right now needs it, not just the next generation. Mo’Kelly will be picking up his copy this week and hope you will too.
It’s one thing to say we want meaningful and substantive literature and art in our communities for our young people. It’s another thing to act like it.
$6.99 and you will be reading it on your kindle, or your kindle app on your smartphone (like Mo’Kelly has).
(Android users stand up!)
But seriously, let’s put this in more substantive terms…
Today, a report was released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicating that Black people read on average fewer than 17 minutes a day during the week and 18 on weekends. Reading is definitely an essential life skill.
Story HERE.
Let’s be diligent in our efforts to add to the lives of young people; things of greater importance than simply lyrics to popular songs. You can purchase a copy of Black Carpenter HERE or by clicking on the photo above.

Mo’Kelly Interviews Actor Brian White (AUDIO)
Some know him from movies such as Stomp the Yard, Fighting, Mr. 3000
and Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Others know him from his co-starring roles on such TV shows as Men of a Certain Age and The Shield.
Actor, model and dancer Brian White is a Dartmouth-educated, former NFL drafted, former stock broker and present youth advocate. If there is anybody who is actively destroying Black stereotypes on and off the screen it is Brian White.
White’s Bio HERE.
These are the types of individuals we should be uplifting in our community, point blank.
These days White is starring alongside Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams in the nationally touring stage play, David E. Talbert Presents, What My Husband Doesn’t Know and Mo’Kelly got his thoughts on his latest venture, the work of his foundation, the Phunk Phenomenon Urban Dance Theater and the music in heavy rotation on his iPod. Brian White has a WIDE array of music in which he listens…good stuff!
