Love…Togetherness…Devotion.
Recently, Mo’Kelly sat down and broke bread with members of the band L.T.D. (original member and saxophonist Lorenzo Carnegie, bassist Henry Davis, percussionist Tefere Hazy and Howard Johnson) and got their thoughts on what made them decide to get back together and start touring once more.
Yes, fronting the group now is R&B singer/songwriter Howard Johnson, who acknowledges not only the huge Jeffrey Osborne shoes in which he is stepping into but embraces his musical legacy which impacts and informs his own song stylings.
L.T.D. brimmed with genuine joy as they discussed their musical legacy, rich song catalog and getting the band back together. From their early days in North Carolina, to becoming featured house band for Stax Records to driving cross country…to even starting over in L.A. as entertainment at high school dances; it has been a tremendous journey.
L.T.D. is from a time when music and musicianship reigned supreme. Real instruments, real singing and really soulful music. Today, they are still about the business of timeless music and bringing back genuine artistry for fans both old and new.
As June is Black Music Month, it is only fitting that we help pay tribute to a classic band in Black music history. Today in The Mo’Kelly Report…
