No, Mo’Kelly didn’t miss this story…just busy in the non-virtual world.  Once again, Chris Brown is back in trouble for saying and doing the wrong thing in public view.

On Wednesday, Chris Brown became the latest celebrity to apologize to the LGBT community for using a gay slur in anger. The singer issued a Twitter mea culpa for an incident on Tuesday in which he lashed out at several photographers in Los Angeles whom he believed had tipped off parking-enforcement officers to his illegally parked car, saying, “Y’all n—as is weak. Did you call them to try and film me? Y’all n—as is gay!”

The comments came just days after comedian Tracy Morgan met with LGBT youth in New York following his anti-gay rant during a recent stand-up appearance, which earned the “30 Rock” star widespread scorn from the gay community for his seeming advocacy of violence against gay youth.

The Human Rights Campaign told TMZ that “invoking words to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable … Brown should know better.”

Brown, who has made outrageous digital comments before — including a homophobic attack on former B2K singer Raz B in December — only toask forgiveness for them a short time later, issued an apology on Twitter on Wednesday night, writing, “I have total respect for Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it.”

Bernice King, the youngest daughter of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., is expected to resign her post as an elder minister at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday in the wake of a sexual coercion scandal involving Bishop Eddie Long, according to news reports. Last Friday, it was announced that Long had reached an out-of-court settlement with the four young men who alleged in a civil case that he had manipulated them with gifts, travel and other forms of patronage to coax them into sexual acts.

The news stories have differed on whether the resignation is connected to the settlement.

King, 48,  is expected to make a formal announcement about her resignation from New Birth Tuesday afternoon on the Atlanta gospel radio station Praise 102.5-FM. Given her reputation as a recluse who reveals very little about her personal life, all ears will be tuned to whatever she  has to say.

It is not uncommon in the Black church tradition these days to take an originally secular song and then reshape it with a sacred message. Songs written wholly unrelated to the Word of God are sometimes given a “church remix” if you will. Miki Howard, Musiq Soulchild…even Snoop Dogg; it doesn’t matter the artist.

Today Mo’Kelly is going to do his own church remix, just for the remaining members of New Birth Ministries. Mo’Kelly won’t bother with all the verses and even much of the chorus, just one simple phrase, once sung by Whitney Houston.

“How will I know?” Keep Whitney’s melody in mind as Mo’Kelly speaks on behalf of those of New Birth who will be in service this Sunday and each one after as Eddie Long preaches from the pulpit.

Hit the music…

Here are some questions every remaining New Birth member could, should and must ask their “pastor” and not settle for “pray on it.”  The Lord made you the members the head and not the tail (Deut 28:13).  Eddie Long may not be able to discuss the specifics of the settlement, but he surely can be forced to discuss members’ general uncertainty going forward.

Bishop Long, how will I know?

Bishop Long…how will I know given this settlement you are not one of the “workers of iniquity” as mentioned in Psalms 6:8, Matthew 7:23 or Luke 13:27?

How will I know?

How will I know that my faith in God isn’t telling me the truth about you, given this “secret” agreement? Since faith is the substance of things hope for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1), this secret settlement could be the very “evidence” of what you truly are.

How will I know?

How will I know ignoring my spiritual discernment makes good sense by remaining in your congregation? (Colossians 1:9)

How will I know if you remember Titus 1:7 does apply to you Bishop? “For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre”

How will I know that as a steward of God’s church that we shouldn’t throw you out as Jesus once did the moneychangers?

How will I know?

How will I know there aren’t other boys/men who may come forward in the future with similar allegations? How will I know you won’t also settle secretly with them? How will I know if  we will ever get the truth as to whether you are a sexual predator?

More expressly, how will I know that my own son doesn’t secretly have a similar story about you?

How will I know?

How will I know when to stop mentally sub-titling all of your sermons as “Do as God Says…Not as I Do and Have Done?”

How will I know?

How will I know when to heed any of your marital advice, given I don’t have 15 million dollars available (allegedly) to deal with issues of infidelity?

How will I know?

How will I know what to say to other believers who will tell me that Bishop Eddie Long is one of the “grievous wolves” who has entered the church and not spared the flock (Acts 20:29)?

How will I know?

How will I know whether this settlement means you broke more than 5 or fewer than five of the Ten Commandments?  What is your over/under?

Before you seek to offer “wise counsel” to my family, how will I know if your own family at least learned the truth of these matters, for their sake?

How will I know?

Most importantly, how will I know my spiritual livelihood is safe in the hands of Bishop Eddie Long, when his own is in tremendous jeopardy?

How will I know Bishop…how will I know? Because right now, the Lord seems to have already answered all of those questions the moment the settlement was finalized.

So maybe now, finally, Bishop Eddie Long will get to hurl the rest of his five

rocks he supposedly has at the ready. The first rock of mediation missed the mark, or so it seems. If you think Bishop Long is comfortable with the idea of exposing himself (no pun intended), his ministry, and the questionable intersection of both to public scrutiny, you’d be wrong.

There will be subpoenas for phone records, emails, financial records. You can also bet on testimonies from current and former employees, current and ex-wife (of the bishop), providing texture, color and hue as to why the good bishop thought it prudent to lavish gifts and spend the night in the room with various minors.

Who knows what bombshells they will drop?

Who is to say there isn’t a Monica Lewinsky-esque incriminating piece of evidence looming on the horizon?  Take that however you wish.  Expect the unexpected in trials.

Are you ready for this New Birth?  You had better be.  The light switch is about to be flipped.

As they say, sometimes when you turn on the lights, not only do the roaches scurry…you realize you have rats too.

The lights are about to be turned on at New Birth ministries.

Are you ready for this New Birth? Mo’Kelly is.

Who knows what this protracted legal battle will unearth? Are New Birth members ready for the eventuality of court documents being posted online, complete with graphic testimonies of the four accusers?

Mo’Kelly is. Turn on the lights.

The court of law will address the issue of culpability. The court of public opinion addresses the issues of believability. Two different standards of proof.

Court of law (civil) – Preponderance of evidence.
Court of public opinion – Who offers the lesser amount of BS.

The court of law will determine whether Long used his power and influence to seduce adolescent boys into sexual acts. The court of public opinion will determine who is more believable and sincere. The court of public opinion will decide whether the sex happened at all, irrespective of the supposed inducements. Long could have engaged in the sexual acts and still be found not liable of the charges.

Just “beating the charges” will not be enough to save Bishop Eddie Long or grant him the victory in the court of public opinion.

Think Michael Jackson…or R. Kelly. Of course, don’t forget O.J. All beat the charges but received life sentences in the court of public opinion.

Long, if he is to save face must beat the charges AND be found without spot or wrinkle in the process. Given the fine-tooth subpoena comb on the horizon, not to mention the many unflattering and likely graphic testimonies from his accusers on the way, it will be a tremendous uphill battle.

In the court of public opinion, Long needs to be able to prove that EVERYTHING in which he has been accused is untrue.  Everybody must be seen as the liars spouting complete untruths…except him.

Not just some or them, or most of it.

All of them, all of it.

Every bit of it.

It’s a tall order.

ONE sex act with ONE adolescent on ONE occasion convicts him in the court of public opinion. It calls into question the authenticity of his foundation, his ministry, his marriage and the possibility of other victims who then may not have come forward over the years. It would be irrelevant in the court of public opinion whether he would have seduced the boy(s) in question with power and influence, only that it occurred at all.

Every allegation by every accuser, must be proven untrue.

Are you ready New Birth? Mo’Kelly is. Turn on the lights.

The court of public opinion is eager to hear Long’s explanation on how and why spending the nights with minors should not be received in the questionable light it presently and rightfully is.

The court of public opinion will gladly listen to Bishop Long’s testimony on the supposed normality of a married “heterosexual” bishop, sending baby-oiled and Under Armour bathroom mirror pics to other men, under the guise of Christian fellowship.

The revelation of ONE sex act, with ONE adolescent male on ONE occasion is all it takes for this married, anti-homosexual preacher to lose it all.

One.

If Long loses the case or is forced to admit having engaged in a homosexual act, one wonders how his remaining congregation will look back upon his initial sermon of defiance; chastising the media (Mo’Kelly included) for how he has been portrayed.

It would be a bitter pill for any “New Birther” to swallow. The person who has baptized their children, performed their wedding nuptials, et al. would have been living a lie. There’s room for forgiveness for everyone, but pimping the Lord and prostituting the congregation to help sell the lie is just not meant to be taken lightly.

This is the reality confronting Eddie Long and New Birth, if he loses or even if he prevails in the case.

Turn on the lights.

Bishop Eddie Long needs to hit a bases-clearing home run to save his ministry, his livelihood and ultimate legacy. This will be possible only if he is truly without spot or wrinkle. If he is, he has nothing to worry about and his accusers will be summarily exposed and defeated.

If…if…Long is without spot or wrinkle.

The lights are about to be turned on at New Birth. And depending on what we find…it may end up turning the out the lights too, once and for all.

UPDATE: The Mo’Kelly Report spies were right…IT’S GOING TO TRIAL!

ATLANTA — It appears the parties in the Bishop Eddie Long sexual misconduct lawsuit are no longer close to settling the case.  The judge in the case now says he is preparing for a trial in the fall.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones talked to an expert mediator who said this is not unusual.”Sometimes when you think you got something resolved, something will come up,” Mediator Elmer Gobel said.

It was Easter week when the judge in the case said the parties engaged in a marathon mediation session and came out of it close to a settlement.Judge Johnny Panos said back then:

“They’ve resolved a lot of major issues and there’s a few fine details that need to be worked out.”Now Panos said he is preparing for a trial in August or September. He wouldn’t say why he no longer believes the two sides are close to a settlement.

Bishop Eddie Long conducted Good Friday services at New Birth Missionary

"Have your Sexual Allegation Lawsuits RIGHT for Easter!"

Baptist Church amid reports that mediation sessions could be close to an agreement in his sexual misconduct cases.

Long left his home in Lithonia early Friday morning to conduct services at New Birth, which began at 7:30.

Long spoke on the importance of prayer and emphasized that the Christian message is aimed at sinners.

“There’s always somebody going to be yakking at you … you don’t have to answer to anybody but God,” Long said.

The resurrection “was not for perfect folk … but for the least, those who thought they failed,” Long said.

Concluding, Long said, “This ain’t going to be no bad Friday for me, it’s going to be a Good Friday.”

Channel 2 Action News reported Thursday that mediation efforts to reach an agreement may be in the final stages.

As pointed out and reported by The Mo’Kelly Report, when you type in the phrase “Eddie Long” or Eddie Long News 2011” to inquire about updates on the sex abuse case, the first thing that comes up is www.eddielongnews.com, which has as a subtitle “the latest on the sex scandal.” But when you click on the website, you are automatically transferred to the New Birth website.

The situation, at the very least, raises questions of propriety and ethics. Are Long and New Birth intentionally deceiving visitors to the site who are looking for information about the scandal and mediation talks?
