Isiah Thomas – 'Bitch-slapped' As He Deserved
Anucha Browne Sanders will get the last word…and here’s a hint. It begins with a “B.”
A jury of four men and three women found Isiah Thomas, James Dolan and Madison Square Garden guilty of sexual harassment against Sanders.
As staggering as the judgment may seem, not everyone has quite figured out how all of this “adds up.”
(i.e. Thomas)
11.6 million dollars later, Isiah Thomas still doesn’t get it. You’d think that a massive sexual harassment judgment against Madison Square Garden, James Dolan and Thomas himself would be reason enough to be humble, contrite and most important, silent.
Nope, nope and nope, it seems.
Instead, Thomas reverted back to the arrogance and hubris which in fact led him to this unfortunate conclusion.
“I’m extremely disappointed that the jury did not see the facts in this case. I will appeal this, and I remain confident in the man that I am and what I stand for and the family that I have.”
- Isiah Thomas
After one foolishly uses his testimony to argue the “finer” points and subtle “nuances” of the words “bitch” and “ho;” probably doesn’t quite understand all of the “fuss” and never will. That said, something or someone still should have impressed upon Thomas to forego any parting statements upon leaving the courtroom. Thomas running his mouth his how we came to this point in the first place. Take your lumps and walk away without so much as a whisper Isiah. We knew you believed you were innocent long before the verdict. Grandstanding after a guilty verdict is not only redundant…it’s stupid in this instance. After one is roundly embarrassed with a landslide of evidence in open court, self-assurance should’ve been eschewed in exchange for self-analysis.
Guess not.
Then again, if Thomas were able to employ any of those basic tools of common sense, we probably would have never come to this point.
Arrogance led Isiah Thomas into a courtroom to explain behavior on his part that clearly was inarguable and indefensible. Hubris and ego pushed Thomas into a legal altercation he had no business being in and he was beat down accordingly.
Why the New York Knicks as an organization didn’t seek a quiet settlement; one beyond the scrutiny of the media generally and the New York media specifically also defies explanation.
The Knicks should have been savvy enough to at least protect Thomas (and in turn the organization) from himself.
To a degree, Isiah Thomas was just being himself…a fierce competitor. Although the odds have always been stacked against him, dating all the way back to his high school days at St. Josephs in Illinois; Thomas has always “won.” Despite his relatively diminutive basketball stature, Thomas has always “won.”
Ironically enough, Thomas went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Indiana University. Maybe the ingrained arrogance, past successes to reinforce it, combined with his collegiate education were all the perfect ingredients to misinform Thomas that this was a battle he could both fight and win.
Thank goodness he didn’t win. What kind of message would that have sent?
If a man doesn’t have the sense enough to know that it is disrespectful to address a woman with “bitch” and “ho,” he obviously has no business managing the affairs of the New York Knicks. This is the NBA, not BET’s 106th & Park.
In truth, his decisions as a general manager made this fact clear long ago, even before his “uncontrolled urges” in the office. But just in case that the ineptness as a GM didn’t send a clear message that Isiah Thomas needed to step down from his position with the Knicks…maybe the organization will acknowledge the 11.6 million “other” reasons now to make a change.
“I’m extremely disappointed that the jury did not see the facts in this case,” he said. “I will appeal this, and I remain confident in the man that I am and what I stand for and the family that I have.”
- Isiah Thomas
The jury saw the facts…Thomas just doesn’t have enough respect for women (married or otherwise) in order to realize they did.
NOW who’s the bitch?
