Chad Johnson Loses Zico Coconut Water Endorsement
This is getting to be really, really sad. I can’t say I feel sympathy for Johnson, but each and every day it’s more bad news for him. But as Mo’Kelly has told other people…it’s going to get worse before it gets better. This is just the beginning.
Mind you, we haven’t even gotten to the domestic abuse case aspect of all of this. The NFL could also suspend Johnson for his conduct irrespective of whether he’s found guilty. Meaning, even IF he signs on with a team, he can still be suspended without pay by commissioner Roger Goodell.
And for good measure. His “estranged” wife has already gone back to her maiden name of “Lozada” on Twitter.

From ESPN.com
Chad Johnson‘s difficult week continued Wednesday, as coconut water brand Zico dropped the wide receiver from its endorsement roster.
The drink company told ESPN.com that Johnson’s endorsement deal, just announced on July 25, is over.
“The Zico brand is about supporting naturally powered athletes,” the company said in a statement. “We partnered with Chad Johnson because of our great respect for what he has achieved on the playing field.
“However, in light of recent events involving Mr. Johnson, we have decided to terminate our relationship. The values we espouse, through our employees, our customers and our brand, are central to our mission. We have taken this proactive step to demonstrate just how important those values are.”
In the span of 72 hours, Chad Johnson lost his job and his wife, so now isn’t the time for him to think about football, James Walker writes. Blog
It is not clear whether the company had the right to terminate Johnson with cause or is still paying him.
Despite not currently being on an NFL roster, Reebok spokesman Daniel Sarro said Johnson was still under contract with the company.
Other athletes Zico has under contract include Kevin Garnett, gold medal-winning decathlete Bryan Clay and professional surfer Bethany Hamilton.

Evelyn Lozada Files for Divorce from Chad Johnson
And with it, she smashes Kim Kardashian’s record of 72 days for remaining in a sham marriage, with a new record “low” of 41 days.
NEW YORK — Evelyn Lozada is ending her 41-day-old marriage to Chad Johnson after the football star was arrested for allegedly head-butting her over the weekend.
Danika Berry, a rep for the VH1 reality star, confirmed reports that Lozada filed for divorce on Tuesday.
Earlier, Lozada issued a statement saying Johnson — cut by the Miami Dolphinsafter the Saturday arrest — “needs help.” She also said that he was lying when he told police she head-butted him.
The two were married July 4 after their courtship was detailed on VH1′s “Basketball Wives.” Their nuptials were to be part of the VH1 reality show “Ev & Ocho,” but it’s now been shelved.
The altercation allegedly occurred after Lozada questioned him about a receipt for condoms that she found.
On Tuesday afternoon, Johnson released a statement:
I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred. I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death. I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life.”

Yes, it’s True…Bishop Eddie Long Back to Full-Time Preaching
Mo’Kelly wanted to wait and see if Bishop Eddie was only putting in a New Year’s
appearance or two and then moving back to the background to sort out his familial “issues.”
Well, it’s been confirmed he’s back to business. He’s evidently worked out his family ‘issues” to enough of a degree where he feels he can manged both the business of the church and his impending divorce.
Great job New Birth, you let him off the hook again. Haven’t you had enough…yet?!
_____________
From The Washington Post
Eddie Long has returned to public ministry. The senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church returned to preach during a New Year’s Eve service at the suburban Atlanta church. He took a leave of absenceto deal with family issues. In December, the embattled pastor’s wife of 21 years, filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” with “no hope of reconciliation.”
“2012 is here! Shake off the remorse, shake off the depression, shake off the financial burden, start using your hands again and reconstructing! God is more about your future than he was about your past,” Long said during the service, according to Charisma News.
“I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted Long saying. “You’ve given me some weeks to take care of some family business.”
Long will attend weekly services at the church, said his spokesman Art Franklin, according to an Associated Press story.
Long has denied allegations of sexual misconduct by four men, but in May 2011, the minister reached an out-of-court settlement with the former church members following months of mediation.
On Sunday, the church announced plans to reopen New Birth Academy Thursday, according to a report by Rolling Out.com. The school Long founded closed in December. The church cited the ailing economy and low enrollment as contributing factors for closing the school.

Eddie Long’s ‘Christian Academy’ Closes Down
_______
While many students across the country will be returning to classes next week, one school in Georgia will be closing down before the school year is completed.
New Birth Christian Academy, a school affiliated with Bishop Eddie Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, sent a letter to parents saying that the school would not continue with classes after the Christmas break.
With the 18-year-old academy closing, over 200 students will find themselves without a school.
The letter sent to the parents of students cited decreased donations and enrollment, as well as a bad economy, as the reason for the closing. It also said that school officials would help parents find other schools to enroll their children for the duration of the 2011-2012 school year.
Although the school denies any connection between the decision to close and the many recent scandals connected to Eddie Long, some parents are skeptical.

Dr. Maya Angelou, Common, Terrence Howard and Rihanna – Confluence of N-Word Truth
Sometimes life is the best answer to any question of “why.” This would be one of them.
Within the space of a week, the supposed “debate” (and Mo’Kelly uses that word quite loosely), renewed as to why we as African-Americans have no reason keeping “Nigga” in our lexicon.
Dr. Maya Angelou and rapper Common
After reciting a poem on “The Dreamer,” the opening track from Common‘s new album The Dreamer/The Believer, Dr. Maya Angelou expressed disappointment over the rapper’s use of the N-word on the track.
During a call-in interview with 106th & Park on Monday, Dr. Angelou clarified her stance.
I don’t think the word ‘disappointment’ quite makes it. I was surprised,” says Angelou about Common’s language on the track. “I know that Common is brilliant — he may, in fact, be close enough to be called a genius, I’m not sure. I know we’re all in process, and young artists are in process. Next week, he might not use the n-word”
Rihanna and the Magazine Article
Now juxtapose these events with the recent story regarding Rihanna being dubbed as a “Nigga Bitch” in a Dutch magazine.
So much for taking the power from word eh? No matter what, all it takes is ONE utterance of the word and we are back to where we started.
Story HERE.
Part of the reason a Dutch magazine would be so bold/comfortable to characterize Rihanna as a “Nigga Bitch” is inextricably linked to our willingness to refer to Black people as “Niggas” and Black women more specifically as “Bitches.”
Sometimes life is the best answer to any question of “why.” This would be one of them. Sometimes, there doesn’t need to be some long and drawn out editorial. Sometimes, life will do the job all by itself.
Or… how about this?
Terrence Howard Divorce Battle
Terrence Howard says his estranged wife Michelle Ghent hates Black people and alleges she would often call him names like, “monkey” and “n****r”. How and why she ultimately managed to marry Terrence Howard is anybody’s guess, but nevertheless it still speaks the vitriolic nature of the word and its incendiary certainty.

NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders Announces Divorce…on Facebook
Does that qualify as a press release or a job posting? Either way, someone please tell
Pilar that Mo’Kelly is more than willing to help her through this very difficult (ahem) time.
To My Friends and Family, Pilar and I have decided to end our marriage and move on to the next phase of our individual lives with mutual respect. We are friends and our top priority has and will continue to be the well-being of our children. We arrived at this decision prayerfully and carefully in order to be able to pursue what is in both of our best personal interests. Neither Pilar or I will be discussing this any further and thank you in advance for respecting the privacy of our family. Truth
Please stop making requests for privacy after making public statements, especially on Facebook. The best way to retain privacy is to make zero public statements. Mo’Kelly wouldn’t have known Deion was divorcing the unconscionably fine Pilar unless he took to Facebook to let the rest of us know. He wouldn’t have ended up here in The Mo’Kelly Report unless he posted it to Facebook.

Bishop Eddie Long to Take ‘Brief Leave’…From New Birth
What a joke. Now…FINALLY he wants to act like he understands the distraction he has
been and the lives he has adversely affected. But even in “taking a leave” he remains defiant. See below…
From AJC:
___________
Bishop Eddie Long is taking a brief leave from the church he transformed into one of the nation’s biggest and most influential, telling congregants at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Sunday he was going to use the time to heal his family.
“I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction,” Long said Sunday. “You’ve given me some weeks to take care of some family business.”
Long’s wife, Vanessa, filed for divorce late Thursday afternoon. She said Friday morning, via a statement prepared by the church’s spokesman, that she had changed her mind but by day’s end announced the divorce was on.
“Rumors that Bishop Eddie L. Long has stepped down as senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church are completely false,” according to a statement from the church. “As Bishop Long stated in his earlier comments, ‘Vanessa and I are working together in seeking God’s will in our current circumstances.’ As any loving and committed husband would do, Bishop Long will take some time to focus on his family but he will continue to be the senior pastor of New Birth.”
In remarks released Friday evening, Long said his love for his wife of 21 years is “deep and unwavering. It remains our sincere desire to continue working together in seeking God’s will in these circumstances.”
Long, with two of his children standing by his side, reaffirmed he had no plans to resign, adding he had not “stepped down” but instead “stepped up.”
