Carmelita “The Jet” Jeter is a top American sprinter with three Olympic medals and a world record.

Born and raised in Southern California, Carmelita got her athletic start in basketball; although she excelled in the sport shared by her family, it wasn’t until high school that she found her love for speed.

Upon graduating high school, Carmelita signed with California State University, Dominguez Hills’ track team and became the University’s first U.S. Olympic trials qualifier.

She won the 100 m bronze at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and a gold at the World Athletics Final. She won a second World Championship bronze. Her victory in the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix in 10.64 seconds made her the second fastest woman ever in the 100 m, behind Florence Griffith-Joyner’s long standing world record. Currently she holds three of the top ten times ever run

Carmelita went on to become the most decorated track & field athlete in the history of the school all while achieving her degree in physical education.

A Gardena native and West Torrance HS alum, Jeff Falkner is the Director of Athletics for the Cal State Dominguez Hills Athletics Department.

Falkner begins his tenure at CSUDH after serving one year as Athletics Director at New Mexico Highlands, which followed a four-year stint at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, where he served in a similar capacity.
