$100 Million and 2 Failed Doomsdays Later…Family Radio Still Asking for Money

Despite Harold Camping’s insistence that the world would come to an end on Oct. 21, it

Harold Camping

has been business as usual for his Family Radio network, with employees working, programming remaining unchanged and donations still being requested.

The lack of changes comes as a surprise since the president and founder of the radio network told the world’s residents that they would be quietly raptured to heaven or annihilated, depending on their standing with God, on Friday. Camping’s Oct. 21 prediction came just five months after his second wrong end of the world prediction, which the radio evangelist had claimed was the start of a “spiritual” judgment, a prelude to the “physical” judgment he predicted would come, now three days overdue.

An unidentified host on Family Radio mentioned the lack of an apocalypse the day after Camping’s failed doomsday date, telling listeners on Oct. 22 who might have been saddened at not having been raptured, not to lose hope.

“I know that many of us are deeply disappointed that Christ did not come. And I said something like this back in May,” the host said, as previously reported by The Christian Post. “But please try to keep in mind that all of us who are believers, all of us who are Christians, are to live in such a way that we are to pray with the apostle John: ‘Come quickly Lord Jesus.’ ”

The radio network also released a statement to address what believers should do since the world has been going on as usual.

“Thy command is still to occupy until he comes,” Family Radio reminded supporters. “We are still to go teach and tell. We are to share his word by reading it, teaching it, and singing it. We still have a unique tool and that tool is radio on which we can bring comfort and encouragement. Every day we, who are Christians, live in attention. We are to live so that we are ready for the return of Christ, and even pray for it. But we also rejoice in every new day, that we’ve been given another day to occupy and serve our Lord.”

Family Radio, which was reported to have collected approximately $100 million in donations leading up to the May 21 “judgment day” and spent most of it on doomsday warning advertising, has asked listeners to keep up their financial support while getting ready for the end of the world, whenever that will be.

Someone in his family needs to grab him and throw him in the nearest nursing home. This is ridiculous!

  • Nathaniel Torres:

I’m Christian, and I am not disappointed that Christ did not return. Maybe Camping’s people are depressed right about now, but not me. I never believed him to begin with. From the very first moment I saw a Robert Fitzpatrick advert on the back of a bus in New York City I knew something awful and ungly was going to go down. So they need more money? Instead they should be returning the money that was donated because they are a worthless organization that preaches no message worth listening to. Dissolve that relig-org, sell its assets, and give back the money. Retiring is a way of getting out of the public eye. Harold has harrassed millions of people, cause wide-spread panic, and then wants people to leave him and his org alone. “He that makes a bed a fire will sleep in it forever,” says the Bible. “Whatever a man sows that shall he also reap,” said Jesus. Do you really think people are going to leave you alone after what you’ve done? Do you think God is going to leave you alone for lying in his name? Stealing in his name? God’s followers are supposed to make him look good, that’s the whole point. In being merciful, loving, and peaceful, religious people point others to God. But this is not what has happened in this situation. Harold had caused people to curse God, to hate religion, to leave religion, to distrust God. Hmmm, isn’t that what the Devil does all the time?

  • Nathaniel Torres:

My second and final comment: (Excuse my prolific): None of this should have ever happened. This craziness should never have gotten this far. Harold ripped off quite a lot of people in “1994?” Everyone should have known he was a dud, by searching out information about the widow whose life savings Harold had kept and never returned. It was obvious from his actions he was an attention seeker. Did he also think he had God on a leash, and that God listens to prophets and not the other way around? No, Harold. A prophet is sent to deliver a message, not gibberish he creates in his own mind. You will be the punchline to great many jokes and you will die a fool. And I’m still waiting for my Family-Radio Gift-Of-Love End-Of-The-World Survival-Kit,I ordered it and I’m still waiting, damn you! But do you care? Noooo! I should have known not to trust you! What was I thinking?

  • Mr. Mo Kelly, allegedly Harold Camping is out of the 'prophesy business'. His wife has announced he is retiring. This is interesting news when we think about his 2nd failed rapture prediction this year was LAST Friday! Mr. Camping needs to to spend with God and get this right!
