UPDATED 9.3.09/RELATED: Open Letter from Sorority Member to McKinzie
In a letter dated August 21, 2009. The senior past Supreme Basileus of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Julia Brogdon Purnell called for Barbara A. McKinzie to open the financial books on the organization. Heretofore, McKinzie has argued that only the Supreme Basileus, past Supreme Basilei and the Directorate can have access to the books.
To which, Purnell put forth her letter.
Ah Suki Suki!!!!
Weeping Ivy 8 Attorney Ed Gray has included the letter in a motion recently filed to force the sorority to open up its books.

The text of the letter can be found below:
My Dear Soror McKinzie,
As the senior past Supreme Basileus of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., I understand well our commitment to serve all mankind while exemplifying high moral and ethical standards. Alpha Kappa Alpha has always been a source of great pride to me. That is why I am saddened and deeply concerned about the allegations of misappropriation of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority funds. Therefore, I humbly request that the Alpha Kappa Alpha and Educational Advancement Foundation books and records and financial documents be made available to Plaintiffs’ attorney, Edward W. Gray Jr.
I have appointed Edward W. Gray, Jr. (and his law firm and consultants), to receive and inspect the Alpha Kappa Alpha and Educational Advancement Foundation books, records and financial documents, as my agent.
This letter is my free and voluntary act and is written to bring these allegations of misappropriation of sorority funds to a resolution in accordance with the mission of the Founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Soror McKinzie, I thank you in advance for your prompt action torwards resolution.

Let the church say AMEN! I was waiting for the kid to start “hoopin,” talking in tongues and catching the holy spirit! SHAMALABA HAMAMA SAY! MAMA SAY MAMA SAW THE MAKUSA!
(For my caucasion readers, “hoopin’ is a Black church tradition when the minister starts preachin’ in a semi-melodic and rhythmic cadence, complete with organ and drums accentuating the moment.)
The doors of the church are now open. Is there one? Is there one outside the arc of safety? Come down the aisle, give the 3-year old preacher your hand and give God your heart.

Dear Yvonne C. Rawls of the Twenty Pearls Foundation,
Mo’Kelly read your rather wordy and emotion-filled editorial published in The Gainesville Sun today. Kudos to you.

Although the editorial is titled as “AKA Sorority States the Facts,” it was pretty short on factual information. So let Mo’Kelly further help you out.
How about the fact that it is almost word for word like the Barbara McKinzie email originally sent out previous to it. It wouldn’t exactly be plagiarism as you’ve obviously received permission to submit the editorial and its content. But to be sure, it’s anything but a construction of your own imagination.
…And that’s a fact.
Wanna see it, HERE it go!
Whereas your argument smacks of disdain for the internet and “irresponsible headlines” which seem to meet your disapproval, let Mo’Kelly also bring to your attention, that his audience is larger than The Gainsville Sun. In addition to the home blog site, it also appears in a number of newspapers around the country, including the Chicago Sun-Times, coincidentally in the backyard of your organization’s headquarters.
…That’s a fact too.
You already know this to be true, otherwise this story wouldn’t have popped up in every mainstream media news destination around the country and beyond. Obviously people read Mo’Kelly, including you.
That said…
To date, nobody in support of Barbara A. McKinzie has dared come on the record and speak on her behalf. It’s disingenuous to complain about the coverage of these issues yet make no attempt to go to the source of the coverage in which everything initiated and state your case. You collectively have not taken any questions, addressed any evidence and have not disproven any allegations. Your arrogance and silence are concurrently and simultaneously killing your case.
It’s a curious strategy. If you think you can backdoor the media with your message, yet ignore the flashpoint of this story, you are mistaken. To your credit, it won’t be the first time. Backdooring the sorority arguably got you to this point.
In other words, y’all have been short on dialogue and even shorter on facts in this fight. A fight you’re losing by the way.
Mo’Kelly is calling you out Yvonne.
Mo’Kelly also made it very clear to Dr. McNealey that EVERY SINGLE TIME you attempt to put out your message without going through Mo’Kelly first, you will get spanked. Now get in the cut!
What's My Name! Say My Name! WHOSE is It?!
After requests have been put into Dr. McNealey, Barbara McKinzie, Melody McDowell et al…you’ve collectively been mum in engaging your membership or the general public in legitimate dialogue about these issues.
One day McKinzie says via email this battle should not be fought in the media, the next you’re submitting editorials which match THAT SAME email word-for-word. One day McKinzie presents a PowerPoint slideshow arguing that nobody has the right to destroy someone…the next you are submitting editorials casitgating 8 members of the sorority as “rogue” members and none of them is accused of any crime, much less embezzlement of more than one million dollars from the sorority.
None of them.
It’s time for Barbara McKinzie to put up…or shut up (in an editorial sense). Mo’Kelly understands your collective fear of him, but either somebody from McKinzie’s camp goes on the record in regard to the allegations or Mo’Kelly will continue to hammer away unopposed, unanswered and most importantly undeterred. Hate to go gospel on you here, but Mo’Kelly is “no ways tired.” It’s taken you WEEKS to have ONE fleeting editorial placed. 10,000 people will see each and EVERY post concerning “Criminal Girls with 20 Pearls” by week’s end.
Do the math. Mo’Kelly is waiting (and winning).
